Subject: Is there a max file size for obj files in Poser?

Maz ( ) posted Sun, 03 February 2002 at 4:36 PM ยท edited Fri, 15 November 2024 at 6:09 AM

One of the castle props I'm producing is about 1.5MB. When I try to import it into Poser the program goes through all the right motions but I end up with nothing imported. If I try the same file in 3DS format it works OK. Is this a limitation of Poser or just some odd quirk with this particular file?

The largest .obj file I've ever brought into Poser is Questor's T-800 Terminator, which weighs in at over 15MB. So it isn't an issue with file size. By the way, I've been preoccupied the past week, but will return to testing your dungeon props in a couple of days. Expect another report soon. :)

Maz, I've had that happen and it was caused by missing "facet" info in the .obj file. Just a guess but .obj files must have several different "pieces" of data to import correctly. cheers, dg ;=]

How much ram do you have installed in your machine and what are you running in the background?

Maz ( ) posted Mon, 04 February 2002 at 4:41 PM

512MB, and only things like processor temperature monitor and IR link in background. Alt-tab shows nothing else running. And it's a 1.4GHz Athlon machine so at least I don't have to wait long to see that it's failed. The file is definitely a valid obj file because it shows up fine in XDSoft's 3D Exploration file viewer. Anybody want to volunteer to look at the file if I e-mail it to you? Zipped of course.

Thanks Geep. It's on its way. If you manage to import it then you need to view it in cartoon + line mode for it to be of much use at all. Cheers, Maz
