Sometimes a little less detail means you need a little more imagination.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 10:46 AM

I like it... and to be honest, a little less detail makes for a greater message. /P

*smiles very very softly* As a person who is guilty of miscengenation, I once had the priveledge of doing a feature for AT&T to celebrate African American History month... and here it is that month again, isn't it? ;) I like the simplicity of your image Doc. It speaks volumes. I hope that once, years ago, my work spoke as eloquently to it's subject. To see some of it that I have on my web site go to: http://www.kreative.net/hbg/resume/gallery_menu.html My favorite was always the one I have reposted here.

A word that should be taken out of the dictionary or where the defintion should be changed to "different CULTURES" not different RACES. After 10 years of work, scientists have discovered that if you are HUMAN, the only difference between you and any one of the other six billion PEOPLE on the the planet is 0.1%. (Or we are all 99.9% the SAME) Of course there are some of us who did not need the Human Genome Project to clue us in. It is also very interesting in the Biblical account of creation after all the LOWER life forms and plants were commanded to reproduce according to KIND, that command was NOT placed on Adam and Eve. Cool pic!

It is a rascist word invented during rascist times when it was against the law to commit miscengenation, and interacial couples could not even legally marry. Strangely enough, the word still exists in the laws in many states.

VirtualSite ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 3:29 PM

We have several very stupid words in laws across this nation. For example, can anyone tell me what the legal definition of "sodomy" is? In some states, its simply having sex with someone youre not married to. In others, its something akin to beastiality. In others, it refers to a very specific sexual act under very specific circumstances. But no matter where you look, its always different.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 4:20 PM

Not sure, VS - however, the military's Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ) also has a prohibition against sodomy, which basically boils down to "no oral or anal sex" even if you're married to the one you're doing it with. 'course, no one ever paid attention to it, and rarely was anyone prosecuted for it (those folks that did get court-marshalled for it were almost always gay/lesbian.) /P

I suppose that on the brighter side of things we should consider the fact that most people don't know what the word means as a sign of some small progress.

"I suppose that on the brighter side of things we should consider the fact that most people don't know what the word means as a sign of some small progress." But on the darker side of things, we should consider the fact that most people don't know the meanings of LOTS of five-syllable words as a sign of the failure of our public education system. ;)

Cin- ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 5:24 PM

In an article about the failure of public education in a local newspaper, while I was still IN a public high school, public was misspelled as pubic.

namja1955 ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 5:38 PM

Not too long ago the New York Daily News had a profile on NYC's teacher of the year. They showed a picture of the gentleman standing at the blackboard,(I suppose I should be politically correct and say chalkboard but that'a another issue). According to the text of the article the teacher had just finished writing an assignment on the board and the students started to snicker. It seems that he had made a spelling error. Naturally the News published the photo.

Legume ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 6:26 PM

What does the image "Miscegenation" depict? It's a very simple image, obviously, and the literal answer is "two Poser mannequins intertwined". But how do you perceive it? What do you see?

namja1955 ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 6:45 PM

Well the first thing I notice is that there is no pink in the photo.

Penguinisto ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 7:18 PM

pink ...what? Everyone pink on the inside anyhoo. /P

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Wed, 06 February 2002 at 8:21 PM

But how do you perceive it? What do you see?
