The leather boots I posted earlier are ready. The file size is 1 Meg. It includes a texture, bump map and transparancy. This image is a preview of a chain mail outfit I started this morning. I will probably add an undershirt so it does not chafe :) smerc

Brilliant! The most realistic chainmail ever.

I make real chainmaille (16ga mig wire, 3/4 ID, butted ends) and I am SO impressed. I will be cecking the area under the arm - that is the true test for real chainmail... If this is transmapped I would love to see it and ask if you are going to do something along the lines of a byrne or full hauberk for the mail figures. From an award winning (yes - patting myself on the back) chainmaille maker in the real worl - Vivant! Bravo!

Ikyoto, I spent part of the morning searching for sites showing how to make chain mail. I found a site where a guy made a chain mail belt. I snagged his pic, edited it, copied it and created a transmap for it. You really need a bump map to make it look good. I mapped this onto the unitard, but it really streaches the hell out of the map at the seams. I'll have to spend some time in Painter 3D to fix the seams. Plus you really need a higher rez map. 1800x1800 or better. Could you scan in some samples of your work :) smerc

smerc, this looks great. Ikyoto, on top of everything else you do, you are an award winning mail maker? Wow! I would like to see some examples of your work, too. How about a tutorial? I have made a small patch of mail, just to work it out, never made anything wearable.

Scanning now. I will post the pic ASAP on my site and here.

maille02.JPGClick the image for the BIG iamge (a JPG over a meg in size). I am scanning a larger flat section that can be turned into a texture for just about anything....

"...She wore an itsy bitsy stainless steel, chainmail bikini..." Sorry, an inside SCA joke. I couldn't resist. Remember, when wearing chainmail on a hot sunny day, wear something underneath it. It WILL heat up, and create "INTERESTING" burns... Enough said.

Pensic IX (yup, I was there.... sigh. I feel old) After the field battle I took my maille out of the ice chest and put it on. People thought Iwas nuts untill they felt how cool it was.
