Vue F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 30 6:52 am)
Well, I've been saying for weeks that it is. I've been using it since the day of it's final release...4.05-02, that is. Try it. If you don't like it, you can use the "Back" folder to go back to 4.03. Make a separate copy of that Back folder first, before patching. The only thing I have a problem with is the new Object Import window. It's not standard Windows, and you can't do alot of things in it which you can do in windows, including read folder properties, delete files, copy/paste..that sort of thing. And rcreating a new folder doesn't work so well either. Actually, the problems with that window are rather annoying...
I think I had a similar problem to what Mike had . Mine would only show little black boxes for the folders when trying to load a file and it would only load directly from the Vue folder. I went back to 4.03 , it seems to be the most stable for me . I will be really glad when they get this thing fixed , it's a great program when you can get it to do what it's supposed to do .
I totally hear you guys on this one! What a mean, mean problem! I think other than that, though, and the fact that you can no longer select straight MAT files as materials (like the base plant materials), the upgrade is a fine one. Personally, it's a requirement for me, because it's the first version that accepts BUM files properly on my system. Oh well. Aaron
No Guitta, it just suddenly started happening, well after I had been using it with the .05-02 patch WITHOUT this problem. I can even pinpoint exactly when it happened. When Kate was talking about her problems with Vue and Win 95 and didn't want to install Win 98. There was talk about folder options, something about columns versus rows, so I went into Windows Explorer out of curiosity, and changed a few settings. The next time I opoened Vue, this is what I saw.
Thats too bad Mike. And you don't remember the setting you have changed, of course. Maybe Steve could give you a solution ? Your screenshot above looks really bad. My Windows is french, but there is a feature to change that again. The problem is, I dont know the english words for it. Give me an hour or a lottle more, because I have to finish a work, then I will try to explain with my french screenshots. Guitta
Okay, I guess everyone has answered my question. I just don't think enough has changed to update, and I do not like that black thing, that would drive me nuts. I wonder if the operating system has anything to do with it. Oh well, I guess I don't really need to update, all seems to work well now. Thanks for the help...Sharen
heyas; wellllll..... actually, it's not worth killing mike over. but a catchy title, huh? i put on 4.05. (STOP running away!) now... i don't know if any of you guys noticed this, but since 4.0, my vue has been a little.... off with control handles. that is, when i want to select a sizing handle on the top or side of my object, i have to move the cursor about 10-15 pixels above the handle, in order to get it to select the handle. that, i could deal with. NOW, i had this patch of grass and ALL the handles for the crazy thing were about 30-50 pixels above the actual objects. AND when i used the top handle to vertically size it, the blasted grass jumped up and down as if it were really in that box up there, not where it was. and you shoulda seen me trying to grab it and drag it. i have to grab way up there, inside the handles, to grab the grass which is down on the ground. sheesh! oh, and using the anchor option didn't help, either. well, can't complain much (yah, right!) since it rendered an image and actually saved it for once. am i too late to try to render mine for the mystical thing? :/
Sorry - but I seem to be the only kind of conservative here because after reading about all these patch troubles (already .03 etc.), I decided to wait for the release of Vue 5 - and I don't have any problems with the original Vue 4 version. Well ... Yours, Bernie

I had problems with V4 from day one, had them till V4.03, updated to 4.05 and seem to be running an extremely stable V4 at the moment, since 4.03 I can even import Poserthingies but who needs that with the new radiosity scripts. The last crash I had was before 4.03 and I usually push every button in sight. What I don't try to do is run the thing in openGL mode, because the Nvidia cards aren't too good at that and I've no need for shady previews.
There's something reaally strange about the "open GL" in Vue. I updated my Voodoo 3 driver again today, and EVERY app I have which uses open GL is looking better, and moving slightly faster, it seems, games too. Not Vue thoughg...nooooooo-oooooo not Vue. Vue crashes the instant I try to select wireframe in any window. I've been using the open GL in the camera window, but that's it. Otherwise it's too slow. The only way I can use Vue now is to just disable open GL entirely. No big deal, though, as having all the other programs run better is worth it.

Just wanted to know how you all like the 4.05 patch, is it worth installing? Sharen
