Subject: Getting It to Fit?

Dear Ladies and Gents of Renderosity... I'm an old-school illustrator who has made the dreadful mistake of attempting to join the modern world and try 3D modelling. I've gotten my mitts on a copy of Poser 4.03 and both the DAZ models, plus some fine characters and textures from Renderosity. Everyone looks absolutely splendid in the buff, but the trouble begins when I attempt to clothe them. Perhaps I'm just too 2D, but I've read the tutorials and docs, and my head swims when I try to follow what they're saying. What's the most straightforward method to get clothes to conform to a custom model? Of course, the "Conform To" function of Poser just doesn't do it. Everyone's hanging out all over. I know it's bound to be the most basic and lame question ever spat into existence here, but alas, I learn by doing, and most of this stuff reads like Chinese stereo instructions. Suggestions greatly appreciated...

Don't sweat it. Everyone struggels with the clothing. That's why they are implementing collision detection in the next version of Poser. The easiest way to keep body parts from poking out of the clothing is to cloak the body parts covered by the clothing. Go to->Window->Hierachy Editor in the menu. And click the eyeball icons next to the body parts you want to make invisible. ScottA

heyas; you can't conform clothes to a custom model, unless the clothes were designed for it. they just won't fit. :) so you can't put the p4 clothing on michael or victoria, or vice-versa.

Except for the DAZ figures that come with a P4 version; those bodies are molded to fit the clothing that comes with Poser 4. Also, if you want to learn the Grouping tool (tutorials are around), you can create a special material group on just the section of a body part that's poking out, then make that bit invisible. There are lots of tricks folks have figured out to do things that the Poser programmers never imagined. Don't get discouraged by the fact that there's always something new to learn in Poser! Folks around here are glad to answer questions; we've all struggled with the same things over the years. (Have you played with the sketch rendering?)
