Well, I figured it out! After I create and find a terrain I like at 256 grid size, I uncheck the random extent, random position and random character. Then I increase the grid size to what I want, click new and then the fractal button and I get a new terrain like the last one, except at a higher res!
BTW, I couldn't find anywhere in the book where it talked about these options, or the tile options. Where can I find info on these?

check out the tutorial on fractal terains, she's got a section on using those randomize options for zeroing in on a terrain you like. This site uses cookies to deliver the best experience. I'd like to make a terrain at the 4096 grid size, with the rolling hills fractal. Problem is it takes a while to generate one, even on my 1.4G machine. What i'd like to do is keep generating terrains until I find one I like with a 256 grid size, then be able to generate the same terrain at a higher grid size.
Is there a way to generate the same fractal terrain at a higher grid size? I know you can generate one at a lower grid size, then change the grid size, but I'm never satisfied with the result. I have tried shift and ctrl clicking on the fractal button, but this didn't work.
Thanks!
