Poser Technical F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 04 2:47 am)
Welcome to the Poser Technical Forum.
Where computer nerds can Pull out their slide rules and not get laughed at. Pocket protectors are not required. ;-)
This is the place you come to ask questions and share new ideas about using the internal file structure of Poser to push the program past it's normal limits.
New users are encouraged to read the FAQ sections here and on the Poser forum before asking questions.
You know that is a great idea that I wish I knew also...we will wait for the wise people to help us out on this....the only thing I can think of is if you do delete some things that are used by others then you are out of luck. I would like to move some things and see if it damages the characters I use most.
First, set your preferred state to have no figures on stage.
and make sure you open to preferred state and use previous state. if you erase the P2 guy before you ever open Poser the first time after a fresh install, you may get the "out of memory" death notice.
If you have or wish to use NO stock characters or props I get by with the following
in Geometries:
deform
lights
props
in Textures:
Ground Default Texture.tif
in Libraries:
keep what you use
What ever Library files that you do use, you need their geometries and textures.
But if you use no Poser stock characters, props or hair
everything seems to work with just the above.
To say it another way:
If you must install a clean version of Poser 4 after a crash.
You only use 3rd party characters, clothing and props and you have their zips and exe's in backup.
What should I not delete if I do not wish to have problems with Poser's normal functions and requirements?

To free up some space on my 4G hard drive I am thinking of removing some of the Poser folk I don't use, which is most of them. (P4 man, P4 woman, etc.) Can I do this, and just leave Michael 2.0 and Victoria 2.0, without seriously messing up the program? Any help will put you on my "new best friend" list. Thanks to you all.
