Subject: I'm about to rip walk designer out by the roots!

OK, I have made up some really sweet walk cycles for V2, Posette et al. Strolling cycles, a "Runway Strut", High Heels, A high heel jog that just rocks... OK, they look beautiful in walk designer as "Walk in place" BUT when you try to use them on a path it looks like the figure is riding a rabbid jackhammer on steroids! The feet dance around as if they were wearing the Green Shoes! (10 points to the one who figures that allusion out ;-) ) I suppose that would be OK if I were trying to do River Dance. OK after 3 or 4 days I think I figured out what it takes to make a foot stick down on the path, the Y-trans value on the goal of that IK chain must be >0 OK no biggie you'd think that when the Y tran passed above zero it would release the foot form the path. NOT! The best results I've been able to produce so far has the figure looking like they are wearing magnetic boots. ( That may actually be useful. ) The back foot sticks down until the IK rips it from the floor. Not very graceful. So, who has played with walk designer enough to know what I'm ranting about and does any body have any ideas? ngsmall02.gif

Green shoes? - Irish Cinderella story, or else one of those Disney movies like Darby O'Gill or the one with Seah Connery and Fred Astaire. But I never had any luck with the path in Walkdesigner, either. Maybe it will work better in P5.

For just a minute I thought I figured it out. Then I tried my new discovery on a different cycle and ... The wearin' o'the Green Shoes! (With magnets in them) Hint: Warner Brothers. ngsmall02.gif

Green shoes, Warner Bros - my guess is Marvin the Martianswalk. As for the walk designer Im no help at all, gave up on it long ago. Sorry B( It seems to be to do with Victoria having an extra joint in her buttocks that P4 figures dont. Did you download that 30Mb BVH file doing the rounds in the Poser forum? That had a lot of walks in it which suprisingly worked well with Victoria, her feet staying in place and walking properly, albeit her hips were at ground level. Not much good if youre trying to create a walk cycle from scratch but great if your willing to settle for using someone else`s or edit some. (Thanks for the new hair, love it) Mark

Elmer Fudd and the Leper..leprah...the little people. Walk designer has given me such A headache that most of my shots appear from the shins up.

Gee Nerd, no idea on Green shoes, but I know the "real" answer to Walk Designer and heels, it starts with Supermodel, as in Supermodel Vicky, Supermodel Morph Vicky, Supermodel Dina or Supermodel Lori! They walk perfectly! Well, as well as good as any, if you do 60% "Sexy walk" with 40% "Short steps" they start looking just like John Cleese, and I'm sure what most of us know that reference!

We could have a "Silly Walk" contest using the Walk Designer. Maybe somebody could get John Cleese to judge it.

Yaaay Thornod. 10 Points! (< Must be a toon head) "We sentence ye to the wearin'o the Green Shoes... Why they're bu be bu be nice." And then the posessed shoes start to cloggin' I guess nobody has figured it out. Do you think people would be interested in a collection of 30 Frame cycles that work great as "Walk in Place" cycles? I've even figured out a way to get quadrupeds (Horses Dogs cats) to work in walk designer. The cycles are smooth, feet planted, and for V2, Posette and Dork. (Sorry Mike) If there's any interest I may do some for him too. They are various heel heights for Posette and Vicki, A "Runway Strut" a slipper shuffle, casual walk, and a really cool High Heel Trot and others. Anybody Interested? Yep, I would be! Especially if I ever finish the horse I started!

Jim Burton ( ) posted Sat, 13 April 2002 at 10:28 AM

Oh, I should have added you can always animate the ground, and just malk in place. It is just about easier to do it that way anyway.

I'm interested in seeing some new walk cycles, especially for animals.

Sounds like ther is some real interest even if it won't "path". I will continue to develop the cycles. This will probably be ready at my store in a week or two. ngsmall02.gif

Just a dumb question, but what figure type are you using in walk designer.. Hopefully not the deafualt poser 4 male.. I had simalar problems at first. Now I just load the Vicky 2 cr2 as the figure type. It's not 100% but very close to it. better than what it used to be... Nick
