Subject: speed up rendering!!!!!!!!!!

For increase rendering speed which solution is better: A. Increase memory (from 128 to 256) B. take a dual processor ( 1 PIII500 to 2 PIII500) Any other suggestion are welcom. It si 4 days I am rendering 16 seconds animation. I can wait anymore!!!

From what I understand, Poser does not handle Dual processors...it's just not written for it. I have an Athalon 550 and 256 Megs of Memory, and rendering any kind of complicated mesh or transparency is still pretty slow. Get the memory though, you'll notice a big difference in the program itself, if not rendering. Get the P3 750..the faster processor, the faster the render. -Darth_Logice

Darth is quite correct, Poser isn't written to take advantage of dual processors. Processor speed and memory upgrades are the way to go - get as much memory and the fastest processor you can afford. There's just one thing I can add, and that is I have heard that there are problems with Poser if you've got 1Gb of memory fitted. (Can anyone confirm this?) Paul

I use the Renderman utility to be found on the Renderotica forum :)

Since poser's renderer does not use anything other than CPU power to render the pics, the best way to speed rendering is to get a faster CPU, or overclock the one you have.

Buy a Macintosh, any Macintosh; preferably a G4.

Poser runs better on my PC (Win 98 500 Mhz AMD Athlon on Asus K7M w/ 256 mb Ram) than it does on my Mac (System 8.6 400 Mhz 'blue case' G3 with 448 Mb Ram). The PC is much less crash prone as well. From that I'd say it's definately more of a processor speed issue than a memory one. With memory I'd assume you just want enough to have everything up there on the screen at once. As for my PC; it's really cool to be able to use poser with the models fully textured and the display option set to full-preview when I move/pose rather than 'box' mode. :) That may be an issue of my video card though (Geforce DDR). I couldn't even dare do it before my upgrade.

Truth has no value without backing by unfounded belief.

Uh oh... you just stepped into a Mac VS. PC war. Everyone duck and run for cover!

Rendering time? I've just had to learn to be patient, unfortunately.

Hey all... I was reading up on the new Rvdia Tnt um...Geoforce? chipset that is used for example in the New Creative Labs Annihalator video card. It claims to Take rendering away from the cpu and put it on the graphics card, which is supposed to be super-duper um...mighty with power and um...might. Any chance this would help with poser? I have one on the way...so I'll be seeing for myself in a few days anyway. I suspect it's a different kind of render they are talking about.. -Darth

Darth, I suspect they are speaking of preview renders, IE OpenGl, etc. rather than final renders. Thats been the case till now. If Meta stuck by poser and made it recognize the velocity engine on the Mac G4-as does Photoshop 5.5 THAT would be a FAST render-but as it is it comes down to processor speed- Eric
