The camera angle and lighting are great, and over all the textures are good ( some work really good ). Really like the green smoky stuff. A couple of things I would address are: The steps, maybe more of a concrete texture or bump look, some guard rails for them may work to. The green oozing down the wall, doesn't look like it's stuck to the wall because it's casting a shadow on the wall.
Sometimes simple things really kick in the reality.. look around in the "real" world. For instance, ever seen a door without a frame around it? Add a little moulding around the door... the hand wheel on the pipe... add a valve bulge. You get the idea. Look around and notice the "little" things. Add those in, and (to quote Emiril) Bam! you got reality. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the input, guys. I'll take all I can get. The steps do have a concrete texture to them, but because of the light, it kind of, well, it did get rubbed out. The green stuff from the pipe in the wall is supposed to be running out. Guess I have to pull out a bit more so it looks that way. There is a stem on the valve, but I guess it's too small to see. Gotta enlarge that. The doorframe. Didn't even think of that. (slaps himself in the head with a brick) I keep looking at it and it feels like there is something missing. I still have more to go, but it's just eluding me as to what I am looking for.

Hehe. Glad you noticed that, AA. On the wall next to the door there is also a key pad and a hand scanner. Kind of hard to see because of the size, though. High security clearance and all, you know. it's going to be the intro page to a web site that I am slowly working on. Yes, Sharen, a sort of biohazard area where (this is for you Nukeboy) a mouse wouldn't be able to live. :) I did a little more work on it this AM. I'll put it up as I get chunks of work done. Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the feedback.

To roughen up the stairs you might want to try making it a terrain, rather then primitives. The biggest problem with bump textures is that they have no effect on the edges. With the angle of your light source the edges are all the camera is catching. Try drawing a basic stairway in the terrain editor. Pixelate it and then add noise. This may help remove the jagged edge. Very nice pic so far though.
Very nice! slight critiques: I'd suggest making the desk face the other way, or at least add a chair. You also might want to make the wooden box a bit dirtier, it looks too clean for this environment. I'd also suggest more of a garage floor cement texture for the floor and the stairs (that gray kind with lots of cracks and stains), and the barrel lids seem a little to bright compared to the barrels. the stuff that's dripping down the barrel looks kinda like it's sitting on top of the barrel, but it looks very nice where it hits the floor. whew! sorry to be so long-winded, but I like getting comments, so I try to give a lot, too.
Well, I've been almost too impressed to post! I think you've done an excellent job here. I'm also learning a lot from what the others have said, but I do have a couple of thoughts. I wonder if the light itself isn't too bright. Since this looks like a room where things have become pretty grungy, I'm envisioning cobwebs and dust even on the lightbulb (kind of like at my house!), which would soften the light somewhat. Oh, and the fire extinguisher looks brand new (which maybe you want, but thought I'd mention it). The other thing I was wondering about is that bright yellow box. It seems a bit misshapen, but there's something about the texture that I find unrealistic and glaring. Can't wait to see the revised piece! And I hope that once you get it up on your web site you'll give us a link, too.
I've taken a lot of the suggestions and implemented the. Some things will be done on it when I get it into photoshop so that I can do it with a lot more precision. So there is a slightly better understnading of what I am trying to do with it here, it isn't a closed room, first of all. Not exactly a high traffic area, but it is used by certain people. NO, it's not a crack house. Next to the door on the right there is a key pad and a hand scanner. I know, thery are tough to see, but I am trying to keep things in scale here. Certain things will all tie in once I finish it and I will post it here before I do on the web site so I can get some final input on it. Thanks again, everyone. I really do appreciate the input.
