THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Silly question about Bryce interface

When Bryce 4 is rendering, what mean the two numbers on the bottom left of the Bryce interface? I'm sure you all know this and I'm too tired to open my Bryce manual :-)!!!

All the power users are probably asleep, so you'll have to settle for me ;-) I think the top number is how long the render is expected to take and the bottom number is how much time has elapsed. (But I've noticed that the bottom number isn't really very accurate.) HTH, Sipa, who is too tired to open her manual, too

On that subject, have you noticed how the % complete readout tends to go 1 ... 50 ... 95 ... 96 ... 97 ... 98 ... 99?

Sipa: you confirm what I was thinking (also about the accuracy!!!). PS: have you got your renderosity mag? Phantast: About the render to disk option, I think that the percentage is the pixels calculate / total pixel of the image so progression is not linar.

I always thought the top number was expected render time and the bottom was +/- error in total time calculation...but I can't figure them out and pay no attention to them whatso ever :)

I always thought ( I could be wrong ) that the top # is the estimated time for the current pass ( not whole render ). And the next # is how long the previous pass took. Actually I thing their not very accurate, and they are just there to tell you to go take a five hour nap, or a ten day cruise.

Heh, I think you're right about the nap or cruise, Stephen Ray. But, I've experimented and studied the top number, and I'm pretty sure it's an estimated time for the entire render, not just the current pass. Just took a quick glance through both BR4 & 5 manuals and could find anything. Nothing in Susan Kitchens' book jumped out at me, either.

Sipapu is correct. These numbers are the projected and elapsed times. The projected figure does not include antialiasing time. The actual figures will be displayed in the render Report, assuming this has been enabled. B4 manual page 37- "Displaying Text Information"

Oh, duh. I was looking in the index under "Render" It never occurred to me to look it up under "Bryce Interface" (which seems to be badly indexed in BR5). Actually it looks as though they cut that rendering info from the BR5 manual entirely. Some of the same text from page 37 in BR4 is on page 10 in BR5. Huh?

With my current project, I can take a one year cruise!!! At this point, I really think I'm gonna leave it. :-( I can't render the Neftys "VeryFrench Hair" with simulation of radiosity lights. My next chance is to delete some lights. PS: I made a quick tour of the Bryce manual and the Realworld Book (WOW, what a book!!)and didn't found anything. Thanks for the info.

Forgot to tell you, Smaker1 - no, I haven't gotten my mag yet ;-( I guess it'll show up some day....
