Subject: Realistic African American Female texture and Character

Hi I am looking for recomendations on what people think is the best/most realistic African American Female texture and or Character If you have renders that would help Thanks Koda

To be blunt, I haven't seen any that I would consider that great. Lots of ones where standing textures have been taken and darkened, either in Photoshop or by putting some sort of material colour on the skin as well as the texture, but it never really looks all that realistic. I'm working on an African American male texture for the P4; once that's done, I'll give a shot at a female.

Well I've just recently released an African American female texture/character package to the marketplace her name is Cree. No coloring done to the skin in Photoshop, her texture was made from actual scans of my own skin. Her face is photorealistic and the body texture is a combination of handpainted as well as photorealistic sections. You can find images of her in my gallery.

As I understand it I can't include a link to the actual product, but I can provide a link to my store.

Hope that helps.

My Marjorie character is based in part from photos I took of a friend who is African American. The link is comparison of several textures done by Blackhearted and others, (Marjories is at post 48). Also you can check my store for another render or Marjorie. Cheers, Phillip

The most realistic African American character is for the "Dina V" model done by DSI. The character is "Darina"...the character is available at Renderotica, an adult site, until they get the new "grc" website up. Go into the store, then characters, she's on the 2nd page. Only problem, you need DSI's "Dina V" which costs 39.95, the Darina character is, I think, around $13.00. Just go and look even if you don't buy *s*. You can also buy Dina V here in the marketplace.

Corrected link...sorry, brain fart *g*

Wizard, I agree with the poster: that Marjorie texture is first-rate. Daz's Lucie, on the other hand, is a shining example of what I was talking about -- just a stock texture that's been darkened without any thought to features.

I've always recommended Eowyn's Shari (for Victoria), and have used it in one image in my gallery. She has two versions, a free one and one with extras in the Marketplace. Both render very well under strong light and don't require a lot of post-work to look good. :) You can DL the free one at The Attic, or check the Marketplace for the commercial version. Hope that helps, take care. SnowS Hoping his pictures are worth 1001 words.

I do not speak as a representative of DAZ, I speak only as a long-time member here. Be nice (and quit lying about DAZ) and I'll be nice too.

I've tinted textures and provided tintMATs for my products. They can be useful for some purposes and help get more value from your collection of texture maps, so renders don't begin to all look alike. But that's not good enough in demanding situations. I'll check those listed here (thanks all), but advertising renders never show hands - I'd love to find a good texture with realistic shading to the sides and palms of the hands, and for lips.

Daio's Dion and Dionne in the freebies are great too if you have vicki or steph, and mike.

Christie by Spectre is an excellent, if light, African American Texture-- and combined with MAAkiino [bound to be misspelled] morphs or MissThang's Exotique, make great African American women. Tone can always be adjusted with material changes. Cree is spectacular. Both of these are fabulous values. There don't seem to be ANY Mike variants on this. Well, wait, there is Zulu, but I don't have it and can't comment. The one other exception being the Boris faces, which I do have and are spectacular. Emily

Eowyn's Shari (a free one I got some time ago) is a nice African American texture in my opinion. I think she was actually a textured figure file. The link is to an image I did that was posted here after the DAZ flat top hair came out which I found suited her tremendously.

I have quite a few textures and characters, but I find the most "realistic" african american texture is Marjorie. I do not have Cree, but my impression is that it is likely more realistic than most of the others, which seem to just be "darkened" textures.

Nightwind ( ) posted Fri, 19 April 2002 at 12:34 AM

I have found Cree to be the character I grab for most. If you work at high resolutions like I do, she is wonderful, I can't say that about very many, in fact I could count them on one hand. She is very versatile and a variety of hair styles look great on her. I have a few renders of her in my gallery. I don't do post render fixes with photoshop or anything else, I'm gearing toward animation, so if it doesn't look good when it comes out of poser, I don't use it. There are some renders of Cree in my gallery here at Renderosity if you care to take a look.

DAZ's Lucie might not be too realistic, but it is a very nice texture. One of the very few characters I've ever bought. This isn't the character, incidently, just the texture.

If you can get your own texture, I have a free Af-Am character head morph for P4 Male, P4 Female, and Vicky.

I took pics of my friend's face, and mapped it onto a model. The body texture is not done yet.

movida ( ) posted Fri, 19 April 2002 at 11:07 PM

TalmidBen: is your camera set at 150mm? If not, try setting the camera to 105mm, it'll eliminate a lot of distortion and your texture will look more in focus. see you

movida ( ) posted Fri, 19 April 2002 at 11:07 PM

TalmidBen: another brain fart, although 150mm will be ok, 105mm is standard focal length for portraits so try 105mm first

I think cwshortys Cree is a very realistic looking African American texture and character...see attached pic...I love working with this texture.

You can make any Caucasian texture into a good African American by setting the color of the model's skin to a grey with some green in it -- learned this from Anton. I prefer this look to the usual sort of textures because the Af-Am textures seem too bright a brown. Included is a sample of what I'm talking about -- the texture is StefyZZ's Asia texture, the eyes are Catharina Przezak's, the model is P4 Vicky 2. The hair is the hair for the free Reika figure for Vicky -- if anyone can remember who created Reika, feel free to mention it. The face -- if anyone actually cares -- was just me playing with the morph dials for Vicky 2. For the skin color, I changed the figure's Obect Color setting to: Red: 191 Green: 189 Blue: 176 Mike
