Subject: Way OT. Windows don't ask to save files! How...

When I used to click on a zip file I'd get a dialog box asking where I wanted to save the file. Now, when I click on a file the file is just loaded and openned. I can then copy the unzipped files from the window to a new location, but can't save the zip. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

What version of Windows. In Win2000 you can under folder options and file types look at associations and click advanced and it has a box for confirm open after download there to check or uncheck.

I had this happen when I had ME.When you click on a zip it would D/L it & extract it, without asking. Also it would D/L it before it asked you where you wanted to put it, which sucks for 135meg files. Ya know how I fixed it?...I got XP, heh.

This might help. I had the problem where freestuff downloads went to my temporary interenet folder and didn't give me an option either after it always used to. I asked about this here in the forum and solved the problem after I got the correct answer. I'm using Windows 98 but I would think other OS's have similar places to check for this. Here's the graphic I made for this, hope it helps.

Ok, I better add a little instruction, just in case it's not obvious or your OS is a little different. On the File Types tab in the Folder Options dialog box click on the Edit button and the Edit File Type dialog will open. All you should have to do is check the box "confirm open after download" and that should do the trick. Assuming of course you had the same problem as me!
