You can get a free reduced resolution Vickie 1 at Daz. Look on the Vickie 2 reduced resolution page toward the bottom of the page, under Free Related Downloads. There are a lot of things worse than dying, being afraid all the time would be one.
Yes, there are applications that can reduce polycount, but they can be a bit tricky to use, and there will be other issues involved with Poser characters, like the .cr2 files. Poser comes equipped with a number of low-poly figures, some of them dating back to the original Poser 1. Since you don't need a ton of morphs or options, perhaps you could base your cartoon characters on them instead. DAZ recently released a low-resolution version of Victoria. The Victoria 2 version is only $20, and as ringbearer said, the Victoria 1 version (with fewer morphs) is still free for a limited time. So run over to DAZ and grab a copy before they come to their senses. If you're creating custom characters, you're correct in assuming that you don't need all those morphs. Victoria's mesh is only 3MB, but her .cr2 is loaded with almost 20MB of morphs. You can remove morphs easily with Mason's Morph Manager 4.0 utility, available in Free Stuff.

Vickie is 26,000 polygons, lo-res Vickie is 20,000, the Posette is (about) 15,000, Supermodel Lor1 is just under 10,000. I hate to plug her of course ;-) but she is free, after all, and made for just what you said! The hair she is wearing is about 24,000 polygons, though! I think I've fixed most ofth ebroken files at my site, incidently, other than th eOval Mirror, I have to find the Zip on that one.Attached Link: http://www.philc.net/lowpolly1.htm
I would recommend that you start from scratch. In my view polygon reduction tools give poor results.Attached Link: http://www.db70.com/bp/
If you're on a pc you should really consider Avatar Lab from Curious Labs. You can put together a lo-res figure and export to Poser. You can also take that figure into a modeling app like Cinema 4d, clean it up, create some morph targets, and go from there. Try taking the lo-res figure and changing the head to a nurb mode, then go to town on features. The lo-res P4 figures included with Poser may also prove to be a good starting point. Bottom line is you will need a modeling program, but you can get some great lo-res figures. Those are great Phil....why not get the free Viewpoiint registration to get rid of the watermark on the animation though, there is a special one for poser. The viewpoint guy actually called me on hte phone letting me know that he sent my files, to remove the watermark..

How would I make a low polygon version of Vickie 1, to smooth out and simplfiy the shapes? I'm trying to make a stylized cartoon version of male and female models, plus make some aliens. Simple stuff. I don't want morphs or tons of options. I need simple files to help nail lighting, and also speed up screen response time. IS there an app out there that can reduce the poly count? Or should I just build this from scratch? (yipe!)
