Subject: The free stuff area has been changed

smerc ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 5:00 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 10:35 PM

1.) You can now define whether or not an item is acceptable for Commercial Use. 2.) You can now define whether or not an item is a Stand Alone item or an Add-on item. Also, the Free Stuff Search has been modified to accommodate these changes and to include these criteria in the search. So if you wish to have your items take advantage of the new parameters you need to update your items accordingly. That is if you are concerned about how your items are used and whether or not they are stand alone or add-ons. Also, all items are defaulted to Non-Commercial Use and as Stand Alone Items. You will have to change them as needed. ' ' ' We should have an open discussion on subject two so we are all on the same page. I would take this to mean the following: "Things that only require the standard Poser 4 would be a stand alone (morphs for the Dork, textures for the strapless dress, a prop). If you have to download or purchase something other then the standard Poser 4 to use your free stuff item, then it is an add-on (morphs for vicky, textures for smerc's wonderful peacock chair ;)" What do you guys think? smerc

I haven't looked at the Freestuff section yet, but it sounds like good implementation and a good compromise.

"Who is the STUD OR STUDETTE WHO ORGANIZED AND CAME UP WITH THIS" . . . Well, I think the chain of events was as follows: -members requested updates -members requested updates again -members requested updates again -members requested updates again :) -post was probably moved to the Community ideas forum a few times ;) - The person who sets the programmers schedule sends a memo to the programmer (not sure who this is, more closely gaurded secret then the DAZ mystery item) -Programmer then makes update -System crashes -Programmer then makes new update Tada new features!

Just had a thought..of course the moment I hit send. Defination of Commercial Non commercial use personal use only. Commercial...referring to render only. Models always belong to the creator and cannot be sold, given away or anything else. Maybe that's a given with some people, but not all.

This is great! Thanks a lot! Jay

now i can wander my poser files and delete all non comercila use items.. heh he yeah...

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 6:05 PM

Fortunately, I only have six items in Free Stuff (at the moment), so it didn't take long to update the parameters. My Mimic-ready Yoda requires WarriorDL's Yoda figure, and my hair morphs require Lourdes' Mike hair, so they're both add-ons. And everything I've created can be used commercially, save for Yoda and the Olympic medals. An especially big thanks for including the "Notes and Requirements" message link.

This should make things a lot easier for folk. Thanks to the hard-working R'osity team!

melanie ( ) posted Thu, 20 June 2002 at 8:06 PM

I just noticed this a minute ago as I was looking at the Free Stuff section. I'm thrilled! Now it'll make it much easier to download only the things I want and not waste time deleting unwanted items. Melanie

For a while the ratings will not be true.

The default set by Renderosity is Non-Commercial and each person has to go in and change those.

Mine are done (took me ages) but there will be heaps that aren't..

I think it would be safe to assume that if the download is an addon for a commercial product it would be able to be used commerically. Providing of course it is the actual merchant offering the download.

Some older downloads probably won't be changed as the uploaders have moved on.

Overall though this is an excellent idea.

A few of the standard items have been remapped (the P4 formal comes immediately to mind as do some of the animals). I'd suggest that they, and any textures built on them, also be considered stand-alone. I like the area for notes and comments. More information is always good. Carolly

Ah yes, fantastic. Glad you can do a search for commercial usage and/or stand-alone items! :)

I like the change, and this thread seemed like a good place to announce, all my old freebies are now available for download from my artist/home page at the site here. I havent take the time to figure out how the links on the artist pages here work to get them up in the free section again yet, and since they arent really new anyway I just decided to leave them there for now.

I put new ones up at my website each month now also.
All mine can be used in personal and commercial renders.

CarolineG ( ) posted Fri, 21 June 2002 at 2:34 AM

Well I love the new features but the search function is not working anymore, after the first page I get a whole bunch of jibberishc code in sql and it says no items match my search but on the first page it stated there were 622 items matching my search......... Could you please fix that? Thanks Caro

smerc ( ) posted Fri, 21 June 2002 at 4:37 AM

CarolineG, Try it again. I think with everyone playing in the freestuff section that the server was just a little overwhelmed. smerc

CarolineG ( ) posted Fri, 21 June 2002 at 4:38 AM

Thanks S On my way! C

CarolineG ( ) posted Fri, 21 June 2002 at 4:39 AM

Well this is what I get on the second page again! Search for "hair" SQL Query Error: You have an error in your SQL syntax near '??? AND bIsStandAlone = ??? ORDER BY uplo' at line 19 Query was: SELECT freestuff.*, freestufftopsection.name AS topname FROM freestuff LEFT JOIN freestufftopsection ON freestuff.topsectionid = freestufftopsection.sectionid WHERE (freestuff.name LIKE '%hair%' OR UCASE(author) LIKE UCASE('%hair%') OR notes LIKE '%hair%') AND bIsCommercial = ??? AND bIsStandAlone = ??? ORDER BY uploadedon DESC Sorry, but no files match your search

Bobasaur ( ) posted Fri, 21 June 2002 at 1:25 PM

To get back to Ms Outlaws note,

I understand the non-commercial, personal use only part but I want to make sure I'm crystal clear on the commercial use part.

If it indicates that commercial use is ok, does that mean only that it's ok to use in commercial renders?

I ask because some might consider commercial use as redistributing a collection of stuff by CD and charging for the CD.

Nope I don't have any for sale and arent' interested in getting into redistribution. I do care about commercial renders though. I have big dreams!

Before they made me they broke the mold!
