Subject: Wondering about Vue...

I recieved a demo version of Vue4 with a Renderosity purchase I made (Brycetech Characters CD for Poser; excellent by the way) and decided to load it in. I've kinda been holding off for this much rumoured Bryce Pro thing, but don't know if even it will load Poser animations as I understand Vue+Mover does. I liked it, and will mess around with it for the next little bit but I was wondering what you guys thought. Also, does the content CD that comes with it contain more foilage and tree props? Anyone have any opinions of the Mover with Poser combination? I didn't think I would consider another app for "outdoor scenes", but I was wrong. Love the interface too... Thanks.

Vue 4 Mover imports perfectly Poser 4 animations (exactly as you have created it in Poser). Vue 4 comes with over 30 vegetation species and each one is different every time you load it. This means that no vegetatin of the same species looks like the previous. They are all different. You can change the foliage with scanned leaves or with free stuff leaves from the web. Other vegetations (about 10) are for purchase at e-on's site. Maybe you would like to read 5 or 6 pages explaining all the featres of Vue here: http://www.e-onsoftware.com/Products/vue4/index.php I only can say I love Vue:-) Guitta

Thanks gebe... Yeah, I was snooping around there last night after playing around with my demo. Perhaps, if you don't mind, could you clear up a couple of things for me? First of all I have Poser Propack and Lightwave 6.5. Does Mover's communication with Vue operate in much the same way? (Save Pz3, open in Vue, and then re-edit the character animation in Poser if required.) So far this seems to work quite well for me and am happy with it. Also, regarding the extra vegetation, one link brings me to "solidgrowth", which by one feature list is already a part of Vue. I take it that this is not the vegetation you are referring to. If "solidgrowth" is a part of Vue, does that mean that it has some kind of vegetation generator? (Like Bryce's tree lab, for example.) With Bryce, it seems to be possible to export only the untextured terrain mesh. I notice that Vue offers more export options (Yay!), but do you know if the texture maps are preserved? Ideally, it would be excellent to export a Vue "scene" into LW and further develop it there, but that may be expecting alot. To me Bryce seems fine if you only want to work in Bryce, but I'd like to tie in with my other apps, and Bryce isn't interested. Seems like maybe Vue is. Thanks for all your help; Bill.

Hi Bill:-)

"(Save Pz3, open in Vue, and then re-edit the character animation in Poser if required.)"

Yes, exactly! When you change something to the Poser animation inside Poser and save it under the same name in the same folder as the original, Vue will recognice (and find) it without problem, if you also have saved your Vue animation, of course.

"...If "SolidGrowth" is a part of Vue..."

SolidGrowth is the great feature (and secret) of Vue d'Esprit. SolidGrowth IS a vegetation generator, but better, much better then any thing you have seen before. Vue has no "tree lab" yet, but you can create hundreds of new plants from existing Vue plants, only inside Vue and for Vue. You cannot export or change completely (shape) the plants, but really alot. There are some vegetations that are not included in Vue (I have them all and don't remember exactly which ones). You have to purchase it separately or as a buch (cheeper).

Exporting terrains from Vue: It only exports its shape, not the texture. BTW, terrains are the ONLY thing you can export from Vue.

There is a plug-in for LW (OZONE) at e-on's site, but this is especially for atmospheres, if I understand well. I don't have Lightwave, nor Bryce.

What you can do is to import lots of formats into Vue. To see all the available import formats, click inside Vue (top menu) OBJECTS--->IMPORT OBJECT and see the list under "all objects".

If you like to see how to work with Vue plants (very easy:-)), and to get a small idea, have a look at my plant tutorials for Vue (they work for Vue 3 and 4) they are here:

If you need more infos or any help, we are here for you:-)

Thanks for the answers Guitta. I think that Vue may have more to offer me than Bryce does right now. While it's disappointing that Vue cannot export a scen with textures into Lightwave, I'm not surprised. Maybe down the road this will happen, as I'm sure I'm not alone in my desire to see this kind of "progam communication" come about. The fact that Poser 4 animations are possible in Vue is a step in the right direction, and is good enough for me. I'll be looking forward to downloading your tutorials soon, and thanks for taking the time to answer my questions.

Only a few words for confirming that OZONE is only an atmosphere plug-in for LW... Argentium Thri'ile

A correction to Guittas post regarding terrain export: Vue does export the texture together with the terrain mesh. It does not export the terrain material, however, it just creates a texture image from the material.
