Subject: Question on displacement maps/rendering

I'm trying to use displacement mapping on a character. Are there certain settings that allow it to render, or do I just not have enough ram? What's happening, I tried FF render with displacement mapping checked, raytrace checked...Oh..I did apply a map in the Materials room to the displacement channel :) Anyway, during render, it seems to be stopped...using FF production mode, during the first shadow render, the status bar stopped about 1/3 o the way... I cancelled the render and tried draft mode...the render started right away, but again, it appears to be stopped, this time about 25% complete... Perhaps it just takes a long time... any ideas ??? Should also state, I have some strand hair on this guy as well. I'm not sure how the dsiplacement map min and max affect the render time....I would assume if you put the minimum at 1, there would be more displacement taking place than at zero, or is it the opposite ??

You have to use a map or fuction in the displacement channel. I turned the raptor into a hedge using the granite function attached to the displacment channel :-)
