Poser Technical F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Dec 04 2:47 am)
Welcome to the Poser Technical Forum.
Where computer nerds can Pull out their slide rules and not get laughed at. Pocket protectors are not required. ;-)
This is the place you come to ask questions and share new ideas about using the internal file structure of Poser to push the program past it's normal limits.
New users are encouraged to read the FAQ sections here and on the Poser forum before asking questions.

Poser4 (and presumably P5) will add figure numbers to all actors etc in a cr2 if you resave the figure from the document window to a pallet. As to deleting internal geometry, I believe that some text editors such as PFE (Programmers Text Editor), and Vim can be used to select text between matching braces, which might help a bit in this situation.
My usual method is to export the geometry then set up a new cr2 using PHI builder. You don't have to worry about anything but the hierarchy, because the only thing you're going to do with the new cr2 is copy the geometry section so you can paste it over the old one in your internal geometry figure. To get the figure numbers, load the figure in Poser and save it back to the library.

Thanks a lot guys! Actually the bit about re-adding the cr2 to the library after you make the hierarchy and add it the first time seems to have fixed my problem. I have never use a PHI builder but i guess i should start. Is this something you do in poser or a little app that you get? thanks again, Brian

This is the link to the author's page for Programmer's File Editor, so it'll be the most up-to-date version. He isn't developing it any more, however. The macro recording feature is very useful, and rare in a free editor.PHI Builder is a very useful little free app for making poser hierarchy files. CL keep trying to convince us that the setup room is easier to use than a hierarchy file conversion, but without much success. You get better and faster results with a PHI file in many cases. If you want external geometry and control over where it gets put, then a PHI file is the way to go. It also allows you to include curve dials and it's a much much faster way to set up IK chains. I've just started playing with Poser 5 and I have to say that CL seem determined to make every iteration of Poser have an interface that's even better designed to slow you down by making you click a gazillion times when one click would do. PHI Builder is by Roy Riggs (aka Fur - one of the programmers here at renderosity) and you should find it easily with a google search.

The Poser manual tries to tell you how to make a PHI file manually, but it doesn't do a very good job... Link for Roy's Poser downloads above. This site uses cookies to deliver the best experience. Hi guys, need to know if there is a quick way to clear out the geometry from a cr2 so that it can be pointed to an OBJ. I tried doing this manually, but poser doesn't add the :# to the end of each body part by default... and so you have to not only delete all the vertex info, you have to go to EACH instance of EACH body part and add the :1 or whatever lol... and there are like 30 for each part ugh. There has to be a quick utility or something somewhere that would accomplish extracting the geometry and letting you point it to an obj (i already have utils for extracting geometry for prop files, but wont work for cr2 files). The figure im making is a poseable vehicle... so obviously the cr2 isn't similar enough to use a shortcut. Thanks!! Brian
