From a purely realistic standpoint, I agree with ICM about the shadows on the sky dome. I also think the clouds on the horizon are a little small and awkward. They seem too regular. The ground texture is really nice, but I think it would do well with a bump map. The shadows give away it's flat nature. Also, when I look at the image, I can see that the braziers (I guess they're braziers) are the brighest light source because of their color, but the object in the center, the pedestal, is casting all the shadows. I should think that either the pedestal should be brighter or the braziers should be dimmer. The colors are very nice and earthy and the green sky is quite warming. Compositionally, pyramid shape is classic both and strong.
first of all that's not a sky, it's a wall. :) second, i am perfectly aware of the shadows, and i know that the ground lacks a bump map. basically the image WAS put together in 5 minutes simply because I couldn't think of a way to put the 5 elements into something meaningful. i was hoping that someone might give me an idea. the gates of hell thing is just about perfect ;) as for the metal prods, they can fit into the ground very easily. drill. put in. drill. put in. btw, airflamesred, please drop the self-justified banter, okay?

what i was thinking of doing is something like this: a remake, actually:I like it alot, unusual coloring, the back wall looks fine to me. If the center figure is to claim prominence though, it should be brighter, slightly larger, braziers could be dimmer, and for mystery, maybe a luminenscent ground fog, this would also soften the horizon make it infinite so to speak...just suggestions... the overall feel is more like ascension...
