Subject: REQ: Tutorial: How do I create MorphTargets with Carrara?

stonecold ( ) posted Wed, 29 March 2000 at 7:45 AM · edited Mon, 04 November 2024 at 10:22 AM

Can Carrara do this? Can anyone help me out? Is there a tutorial? So many questions - I hope there will be answers... Stonecold

Great question. Hope you get an answer. I would like to know too.

It's not too hard really. I assume Poser Morph targets? Export and obj file from Poser. You want to export only the part(s) of the body you plan to morph. So uncheck everything else in the hiearchy editor... So far you should be doing the same stuff you do to make a morph target for any other application... To bring it into carrara you just open the obj file in Carrara. There's an option on the list of options that says '(needed for morph targets)'. I forget what the first half of it says and I don't have Carrara here at the moment... But it's the only option you want checked other than the default options that are already checked. Bring it in, select it and move to the modelling room. Don't add any vertexes. Just use the sphere of attraction tool. When you've got the shape you want export it to an obj file. You can use it as is as a morph target in Poser. The shape you made is the 1.0 setting on the dial. You might also want to open the obj file and remove all the lines that don't begin with a 'v'. This will cut the file size by as much as 2/3. WHich is a real good idea for memory and upload purposes.

when moving the bodypart to the modeler window it says No Parameters in a blank window. Had this problem before. I was hoping to see my mesh or something in the modeler window. Whats up. I imported the obj, then selected the object in the assemble window first, then moved to the modeler window. advise?

When I get home tonight I'll look at the steps I used more closely and put some statement together. The error you got sounds like it wasn't selected, but you say it was. So I'm not sure off hand.

Well I've made a bunch of screenshots. I'll have a tutorial ready sometime tommorow most likely.

Forget it now, you're too late. Just kidding. You are too kind. Thank you much. I work around 60 hours/week, so reading manuals from the beginning is a dream (of many) I hope to reach some day. Problem is I have about 10 manuals.
