Subject: Oct challenge reworked

I made the trees bigger and played with the lighting. The new tex to the picnic table makes it stand out better I think. I added my daughter and a duck, but you can barely see the duck.:( Oh well, I do like this better. Let me know what ya'll think?

I like this very much, but a couple questions. 1. The picnic table appears to be in front of all the trees even though you can see (relatively) about 2 or 3 feet of the bottom of the trees behind it. Could it be hovering, not seated on the land? 2. I don't see any cast shadows anywhere. Are they turned off in the Sky Lab? Or is the "cloud casting shadows" turned on in the Sky Lab? This is giving an overcast look to the scene. I think it might benefit from some obvious cast shadows, making it look more sunny, appropriate to the setting of this pic. Again, great composition, very nice mood. -Tjohn

This is not my "second childhood". I'm not finished with the first one yet.

Sorry, I feel like I'm picking on you, but just one more suggestion. Have you created any 2D picture objects in Bryce before? The picture of your daughter might benefit from being placed in the scene in this manner, as it would reflect naturally in the water, making the piece look more realistic. Don't rework the pic on my account, it's very good as is.

A small duck is better than no duck at all, that's what I say. (Sometimes) Your trees are good, but I think you forgot to blur the edges of the shoreline like you did on your last one, to make them look transparent.

I like this one better too. I see what tjohn means about the picnic table. It seems to be in front of tree trunks that are closer to the shore than the picnic table is. If you wanted the duck to show up more, I think you would have to reduce how much the trees are being reflected. Still a lovely scene. Lin

Thanks I see the table too. Don't know what in the world I did..LOL please don't feel as if you are picking on me. I have no manual for this program so all of my renders are trial and error. Well, everyone's are really, but you know what I mean. How do I control the amount of reflection in the water? Thanks for all the help.

Best way to place the table would probably be a top down view. To reduce the reflection of the water, select the water terrain/plane then click the little m to go to the material lab. Towards the bottom will be reflection setting. Suggestion: pick up Real World Bryce as soon as you can....it's the Bryce bible. :)
