Hi, I fiddle a bit with smoke. This is smoke of a cigarette, lit from left behind. Still trying to find the best lighting, so I'm grateful for any hints.

cheers
Thomas

I dunno. Not skilled in cigarette smoke photography, but it looks pretty cool to me. Also, adding it as a layer to some other fitting photo, might make a nice "special effect" background. Different tints and all.

what if you were to do some multiple bulb exposures using dif-coloured lighting setups? all you gotta do is put something coloured and somewhat transparent in front of the light... might make for some smokey fireworks.

I've tried photographing cig smoke and have never been very successful at it. And now that I've quit smoking guess I won't be trying it again. .....sorry I can't be of any help.

I am, therefore I create.......

This is remarkably like the effect I was ranting on about quite some time ago!! S'good, still one of my personal favourite playthings too. When I did it I used a normal desk lamp snooted off with a sheet of card roled into a tube. For those non-smokers, you can get the same effect with incense sticks - actually, it's a bit more controllable then, coz if you want thicker smoke you light 2 or more and put them together. Have more fun! (",)

you could just light two or more cigarettes.... but I quit too so i wouldnt know.

Thanks all, some great ideas, I got a lot of problems with flares so I'll try out Jordy's idea with a light tube and using different light colors and more cigarettes is a good idea as well, Slynky. BTW, I found a good example for these kinds of shots: http://www3.photosig.com/viewphoto.php?id=420663 thanks again + cheers Thomas

Nice shot. Never had tried to catch smoke before, but looks like you did a good job.

Not sure if they are posted there, but check out PhrankPowers Gallery. He did some really awesome smoke shots last summer that are worth looking at.
