this may be the totally wrong polace to ask, but where can i find programs to make 3d gaming? poser was very close when i found out about it but i need to find a prgm that allows user input and 3d motion and stuff like that. i am a beginner so any help is appreciated.

Well, there is a program called Jama3d (jamamagic also) at http://www.clickteam.com (have a french and an english version of site) but I have not used it.

I have used their MultiMediaFusion (been through 3 owners!) for simple game development like hangman and screensavers, etc and other than putzing around - works ok for me.

They do have a free demo download and have been working on the Jama3d for over 2 years to best of my knowledge so it just may work for a game.

Otherwise - easiest is to get the Directx Development Kit from microsoft and Visual Basic Programming Interface(unless you a big time C programmer - stick with VB).

Also look at DarkBasic.Com. It has a 3D Game Creator. Looks neat...

Another programm for game development is "3D Game Studio" which you can find at www.3dgamestudio.de. The programm offers several licencing models and starts at a quiet inexpensive price. A word on Poser: You will almost certainly not be able to use your poser models in any 3d games (although you might be able to use poser in order to animate your 3d game models). The reason is, that poser is using a way higher polygon count for it's models than any 3d game. Remember that you need to render some 25 and more frames per second in order to get a smooth motion. How long does it take to render just 1 poser frame ? :)

That's how I started with my Poser version of Sabrina, who was originally a Half-Life player model.

MilkShape is an inexpensive low-poly modeling tool intended for game design. It currently supports over 30 game file formats, in addition to industry-standard 3D filetypes.

You might check out some of the sites that support the Quake and HalfLife gamers. They often have models and module free stuff that could help you. Above is a link that is a good place to start.

A quick question before I drop in any links that may not be what you need: Are you looking for apps for modeling characters for game use? Or are you looking for game engine developement tools? Or both? I'm afraid that two of the best I can reccomend in both areas aren't really beginner apps - the game engine developer requires programming capability. The character creation apps aren't entry level...
