Hi there, Well first off I have seen every image and add-on and they are all wonderful. We are all amazed at the House Mouse becoming the huge sleeper hit of the season. Thanks to everyone who is adding to it. Great stuff. I honestly didn't quite expect so many downloaads. It is quite high now. Now about the cat. I was planning on a kitten but it seems it might be more prudent to think bigger. A truly realistic and full-featured cat will take alot of work. Also the exxtreme variations of cat shapes prevent one "omni-cat". However, a few "Multi-cats" are possible to cover most bases. So here is the big question? What kind? Short hair will be better for now until Daz Studio is released. Then we can look at doing long haired cats. Speak now or forever hold your peace. :) Anton DAZ 3D Platinum Club

Ohhhhhhhh, a leak on Daz studio... long hair.... what will it be? Dynamics? Exportable to Bryce? yada yada yada!! hey we did like the mouse and a cat is something that needs to be done too. I would like to see a kitten as well as a decent full sized furbag. (Sorry, Kitty just slapped me for that one.) You know, some day I hope to see a good rabbit. There's none out there. I'd love to show some imaginative travels of the famous bunny in the battery commercials.

How about an anthropomorphic felinoid female (i.e. a cat girl)? Sorry, I couldn't resist. If, on the other hand you're actually curious, click on the thread link where I tried to rally members to write to DAZ about that very thing. Sincerely, Bill

I don't know. I am quite torn between screaming "KITTEN!" or asking for just a nice normal cat with textures. I think I really lean toward a kitten. Diane

How about a cat that will morph into other cats.. Tabby to simese.and so forth

queri ( ) posted Tue, 26 November 2002 at 11:36 PM

I like soft grey and white, with boots, but would be happy with any furry. A Tabby would be lovely, too, considering how the feline beastmasters turned out. Emily

PheonixRising ( ) posted Tue, 26 November 2002 at 11:39 PM

A cat could possibly morph into some similar variations but could nver be every cat. Aside from joint problems, texture distortion would occure in great differences. That is what I was meaning. Pics would help.

I agree that a short-haired tabby would be ideal. Perhaps a short-haired cat would be more popular at this point than a long-haired variety, since so many of us are still using P4, and trans maps to simulate longer hair might be problematic. It could take on all of the main tabby textures ... calico, gray/white, orange/white. It probably wouldn't be too hard to provide morphs to change the basic form to other short-haired varieties ... Siamese, whatever. Awful nice of you to respond to all the requests like this, Anton. Bill, have you seen the Fantasy Feline textures for M&V at DAZ? They might not be exactly what you have in mind, but they're very effective when used with the Millennium figures' "cat" morphs.

Then when you have that new program, you could try....

SnowSultan ( ) posted Wed, 27 November 2002 at 12:06 AM

I also think the short-hair tabby would be good for now (I have two of them myself, but still...). :) It could probably be scaled down to be a kitten (someone has already done that with the P4 cat), and maybe through clever transmapping, we could at least try to make it a longhair too. Perhaps making a "cape" of sorts to conform and drape over the cat's body and transmapping that could add longer hair. Just a thought though. ;) BTW Anton, is there any possibility of offering $5 DAZ gift certificates in the future? I know it doesn't seem worth the trouble, but I have a few people I'd like to give certificates to and I can't really spend $10 each at the moment. Besides, for Platinum Club members, $5 goes a long way. :) Thanks for your time, take care. SnowS Hoping his pictures are worth 1001 words. 1001 Words

while a siamese is a short hair, there are a couple of things unique to siamese that would make it very difficult to morph a basic short hair cat body into one. the first being the unjointed kink in a siamese tail-tip, with the siamese tail also being thinner and jointed to only go up from the butt. ( this was actually bred into this fighting cat to enable storing rings on the tail and only the owner able to get them easily. )

Excuse me, Jaqui, but that tail kink on some of the siamese are a totally UNWANTED thing in today's siamese breed, so to model a faulty siamese would be a shame, imo. On the above pic is a lot of siamese, (and Oriental Shorthair) the white one in the center is our Basil just before he left his native home :o))) But apart from that I agree that you cant "just" slap a siamese texture on a regular cat and have it resemble a siamese. The head is way different, the ears bigger and the tail longer and thinner. I've never heard of siamese being fighting cats btw, do you have a source for that? It sounds interesting :o)

ernyoka1, never said it was wanted currently, but it was when the siamese were bred into being. and my information about thier history is from the public library, in almost any encyclopedia. ( I memorised 3 sets by grade 2 ) guard more than fighting, but I'm sure you noticed that siamese tend to not like new people ( generally speaking, since all cats are individuals ) not sure if it was china or a smaller asian country where the ruling class used them to patrol the home at night and guard the jewellry. ( hense the kink at the tip ) they tend to keep thier tail verticle when walking, which helped balance the rings ~wink~. personally, I prefer dogs, specifically neopolitan mastiff, over cats. but all animals seem to adore me. ( even those few purebred siamese I have been around )

Ironbear ( ) posted Wed, 27 November 2002 at 1:55 AM

Coolness. I'd actually buy the "Millenium Cat" ;] Short hair? I'm a russian blue fan personally... although I second and third those that said we seriously need a full featured big cat set. The current ones aren't quite quite... Some things that would be a must [large or small cat]: ear flex morphs to swivel, forward and flatten ears. Ctas ears are extremely expressive. A good snarl and othe mouth/muzzle expression morphs. Ditto for eye/face expressions. Morphs to move and position the whiskers... again, cats have very expressive whiskers. Next to the tail tip, that's their most expressive feature. The shoulders and hips/thighs need some shaping morphs and "fix" morphs to allow for the muscles to flex when the legs are posed and bent. ECM/JCM mayhaps? And plenty of joints in the tails... enough to allow for easy posing. The tails of the current cat and lion break up and/or kink badly during posing. Incorporate a lot of features like those to take advantage of what Poser's current level of "user created file hacking" has added over time to state of the art, and you'd have a winner. I'd buy it. Without.... I wouldn't pay Daz prices for a new cat model. PS: To erynoka1 - that is one gorgeous family of cats you have there. ;]

OMG! These are soo cute. I am making a list now. Fur seems to be the main hurdle but there is transmap potential. Will need to do tests to see what Poser can handle. Realistically Baby tigers and such would have to be their own figure. But as I said there is room for a few "Multi-cats". This would allow people to choose the one closest to what they want. Trying to sqeeze to much into one cat will just limit the overal results. Better to have the best looks possible to each. Ironbear, lol Loud and clear on the "cost-to-feature" guidelines. Pretty standard... ... load it with everything and give it away... :)We do try our best. I bout a great Cat Encyclopedia today so I will start looking up some of these names. I don't have any cats but have alot of pics. If anyone has open mouth pics or expression pics those would really help. If anyone has any closeup pics of feet and pads could you send to me at anton@daz3d.com but only if it is no trouble. Getting all the reference material usually is the longest part of the process. And not being a cat owner, I want to be thorough. These pics are really helpful as are the suggestions. Anton anton@daz3d.com Daz3D Platinum Club

Also thanks danidh for the link and the references. Momcat ( ) posted Wed, 27 November 2002 at 5:48 AM

Yay! We SO need a decent cat. I think a basic domestic shorthair would do nicely, and could be morphed into almost anything. For now, too, longer fur can be done in postwork. The biggest problem with the current cat is that it just doesn't look like a real cat in any way, and it doesn't have proper joints. The creation of an anatomically correct (and I'm not talking about genetalia, I'm talking about bone and muscle structure) cat (and dog PLEASE?) would make my year.

sparrowheart ( ) posted Wed, 27 November 2002 at 6:20 AM

I absolutely agree that it should be a domestic shorthair. The lovely tabbies that tasquah posted pictures of above are just the thing. Frankly, my Russian Blue looks just like a short-haired tabby with a toothache. (Fat little face, you know. wink) so a lot could be done with morphs and different textures to give us a small universe of cats from just one plain old domestic shorthair to start with. I think an additional kitten model would also be a huge seller. I agree with Ironbear too on the price. I certainly don't expect to find a cat full of features for $1.99. As Momcat said just above, a new cat would make my year. I'm willing to pay more than $1.99 to have my year made!! LOL Anton, you've really given me something to smile about when I most needed it. Thanks! Kimberly

Hey, no fair! If everyone's going to be posting pics of their furbabies, I get to too! Here everyone stops fighting to observe our exceptionally brazen squirrel.

Another cat type that I would love to see is a Manx (my two kittens are Manx). They're not just tailless, but they also have the bunny-ish back legs. It'd be nice to also have a morph or a joint that can be made invisible to give them a stubby tail. (Manx are actually better off if they have at least one joint.)

And there has to be an option for a kink in a Siamese tail! But it isn't always just the last joint. A friend of mine's Oriental Shorthair with Siamese blood has it right in the middle of his tail, and my Malcolm (the tuxedo in the lower corner you can barely see) has a slight one about 2/3 of the way from the base.

I think the best cat for starters would be the best breed of all, Domestic Short Hair. (The beloved mutt-cat.) It'd be the most flexible.

Sparrowheart, I can say from experience that matching the seamlines is KILLER. It can be done, but it is a serious pain.

Anton, Congrats on the success of the House Mouse. I was wondering if there was a chance to make the cat as both a bipedal and normal cat, IE: the same "human" rear legs as the mouse and also accurate "Cat" rear legs. Puss n Boots comes to mind... of course... "cat clothes" would be on the horizon. Any chance on an update or add on to the mouse to make the back legs more realistic? In nature, there's only one species with four knees. anyone? Yep, the Elephant.
