THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Blending Modes

Is there any way to access the blending modes equations in DTE? Im having a hard time to get a realistic snow covered mountain slope when seen in closeup. What Im looking for is snow puddles on soft slopes and sparce snow patches on steeper slopes, in other words a Terragen looking snow. Snow Puddles only accepts integer constants, while the most realistic C setting for it should be around 1.5 C = 1 makes too little slow and 2 up makes the slopes looking painted white. Earth mapping, when properly adjusted, gives a more natural random snow, but only with very simple and soft bumps. The color blending modes, like Altitude and Spline with Snow, dont work very well with Snow Puddles. My problem is that that I have only one component slot available for the snow. Fernando

Suggestion would be to get "Real World Bryce" by Susan Kitchens. It explains all the modes in great detail.

Recently there was another post on texturing to get interesting terrain effects. EricofSD (hope that's right...) gives a link to a very good tut on combining terrains. The entire thread i thought was very good and have gave a link to it if it might be of interest... Might work to allow you to get the effect you want without to much overhead in tying up your computer's resources. best, and happy Thanksgiving, hewsan

Yeah, that's not my tut, obviously, but one to keep bookmarked cuz its pretty good. I agree wholehartedly with Aldaron. Kitchen's book is the ONLY place I've seen the math equasions for the DTE. Also, if you go to www.brycetech.com and look for the Materials Lab link on the left side under Advanced, you'll be able to go through a rather advanced DTE tut. Its several pages long with a test at the end for those who really are into it. I think you'll find part of what you want as you get to the end.
