Hello all :) Occasionally when I'm working on a project for several days, I'll get the above error message. So I usually end up with MyProject.psd and MyProject2.psd and MyProject3.psd etc etc and it's just a pain. Any suggestions as to what's causing this error and what I can do to remedy it? what version of PS and waht OS are you using?

I've had this happen when i've copied back to my hard drive any art that i've burnt to a CD...

also make sure you don't have it opened in another app (like a "save as"...)

another thing to watch for is those blasted "thumbnail" images created in Windows directories when you select a file. One time i could not throw away a file because it said it was "in use", even though PS was not launched. When i changed my "view" option to DETAIL and selected the file again, i was able to toss it... go figure!!!

I'll look into why Windows decides to change some of your file properties to "read-only"...

but if you do get another, you can cancel the "save" and locate the file in the Windows Explorer and deselect the "read-only" checkbox in the properties. I know its a pain but it's better than sorting through multiple versions of an image ;)

@Rex I'm using Windows ME and Photoshop 7 @retrocity hmm well I didn't burn it onto a CD and I'm pretty sure I don't have it opened anywhere else.. I had forgotten about the "read-only" checkbox in the file properties so I went and checked that today and it WASN'T checked.. weird.. but next time it happens I will check and see right away to see it it's somehow gotten checked
