Description

this was an experiment of epic proportions (in terms of render time) i was playing around with ecosystems and ended up with this. initially i rendered at 1024 x 768 with Ultra settings, just to see how it looked. it took just over 3 hours. then, for the heck of it i thought i'd render at 1280 x 1024 with Global Illumination enabled. it finished just now, after 40 hours of rendering. the only difference i can see is that the GI version is darker. the water looks much better with GI as well, but i don't know if 40 hours for better-looking water are, in fact, better than 3 hours of rendering and another 37 of further experimentation :p *edit* unfortunately i can't compress the full-size render enough to be less than 512kb without completely messing the image up, so i've had to scale it down :(

Good idea, light and ecosystem. Just a little remark : It's must be better with aquatic plants under water. But perhaps it's a puddle after rain...

WOW! it's been a long time since i had a response like this to an image i created. huge confidence boost :D EA, the original plan was to not have the plants in the water at all. when i hit the render button though i didn't know how to do that with ecosystems and now i'm not willing to wait another 40 hours for it, so it'll stay like that hehe Frogs & dragonfly are an interesting idea, but i'd only ever do it by super-imposing them. rendertime is too loooooong :(

Damned good, damned good. I agree what you said about the differences and Photoshop corrections. Sometimes it is MUCH MORE effective to do things in Photoshop. But again, a wonderful balanced image you did!

Wow.. The water looks amazing. I even see ripples in the water because of how the plants in the water are positioned. There is the right amount of depth and dirt there. Is that pretty pink and orange flowers I see blossoming through the picture? Keep up the good work! And 40+ hours rendering ;)

Nice work. You don't have to waitfor another 40 hours however. Turn the quality slider on the atmosphere lighting tab down to -1.0 and render using final or superior. It should take less than an hour this way.

Tnis is really execellent, and I do think GI contributes a lot to the realism of outdoor scenes. Try lower settings maybe next time, you can go down to -1, in the quality settings of your GI, in the atmosphere tab, without losing quality, and you'll save render time.
