The St. Augustine Lighthouse I by TwoPynts

Here's one for you Brian (Tedz) , a grand erection! ;'] 219 steps. That is how far Lisa and I had to climb to get to the top of this lighthouse and take yesterday's photo. It may not sound like that many, but believe me...it took some effort. :) The lighthouse is 165 feet above sea level and a wonderful vantage point from which to view the surrounding countryside. The original lighthouse was built by 1874, but fell in the ocean in 1880 (yikes!). This second one was built 500 yards southwest of the original location and is far inland due to the constantly shifting coastline. There is a great animation of this on the St. Augustine Lighthouse website. It is still an active lighthouse, though now it is fully automated. If you are ever in the area, it is worth a visit. You can read more about the St. Augustine lighthouse HERE. ----- Thanks for stopping by and for your panoramic comments on yesterday's photo, St. Augustine City Panorama.
