Description

This is a mask from Bali of Rama the incarnation of the God Wisnu who descends to earth to save humanity from evil. He is the protagonist of the Hindu Ramayana epic (literally means, 'the journey of Rama') . My understanding of the story is, there was a demon king named " Rawana " who was treating the people pretty badly (your every day evil bad guy routine ). The people prayed to Vishnu for salvation and he took pity on them . Vishnu decided to incarnate back to the earth in human form and thus was born Rama. There are many characters in the drama but a few of them are Rama , " Sita " his wife and soul mate , " Laxmana " Devoted Brother of Rama , " Hanuman " ( Monkey God ) - The Greatest Devotee of Rama , to name a few.
