Description

The weather started to improve after the Ginals-hike. After dinner I went out of the house to see what happened in the sky. There are some remarkably sharp-shaped clouds to be seen, like little hills. I'll try to explain. Massive clouds are pushed on the north-side of the Alps by the currents and they ascend the mountain-ranges. By ascending the temperature drops and these clouds are starting to drop their precipitation. The clouds drift over the mountains and here, on the south-side, they are descending and the temperature rises again, dissolving the clouds in the warmer air (that can contain more humid air). Here you can see the end of this process called 'Föhn' (similar to Chinook in the USA, Sirocco in Africa, etc.), where clouds are continuously dissolving. Föhn-stimmung means the atmosphere caused by this Föhn. Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 100 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

Wonderful capture of this ever changing sky...you are so knowledgeable about how the weather works...half the time I'm shooting I don't even know why clouds do that! Aloha!

I like the silhouette of the mountain, it helps give some extra shape and interest to this beautiful cloud scape.

" I wandered lonely as a cloud, that floats on high o'er vales and hills." Powerful image. Like the dark contrast of the land.
