Description

Just when I thought I knew what this bird was, it wasn't. Ack, Ack!! It looked like a Japanese White Eyes to me, but they have a white ring around the eyes and this one doesn't. Also the breast is white and this one is green. The beak on this one is longer then the White Eyes....Maybe Nongo can help me once more....I do better at shooting them then trying to name them...Thank goodness I'm not writing a book, their would be big question marks under each birds name... Enywho, just another bird that came to watch the feeder, it didn't actually eat from it. I know it's not the greatest shot, but it was there less than 5 seconds...enough for 2 shots and it was gone. Update: Once again and to my amazement, Akemi(Nongo) has come through for me and named this bird. Please read her comments for the run down. Thank you Akemi, your a real life saver! Aloha to you! Thanks for putting up with me...Aloha to everyone, and hope your week is going smoothly!

Hummm, guess you should get yourself a bird book. Another great shot from your yard. I saw a bird like that in my yard the other day. First time. Was wondering what it is too. Aloha

Kauai Amakihi(Hemignathus kauaiensis) The Kaua'i 'Amakihi is one of a group of small, closely related, island specific Hawaiian honeycreepers. This species was formerly considered a subspecies of the Common 'Amakihi but is endemic only to island of Kaua'i and is now granted full species status. This would be my guess... I could be wrong... Looks like you're getting quite a vaiety at your feeder? That's really great!!!! Excellent image Dave!!!!!!

I know I sometimes go crazy trying to find the name of a flower I find in the wild. I know your predicament. The best thing to do under these circumstances is to lean back and enjoy the picture until someone identifies it. This is a top notch photograph.
