Description

Top Picture: Shiva and his consort Parvathi in Khajuraho temple It is variously described that, in this image, Parvathi asks her husband 'Who am I ?' Shiva then explains to her the whole process of evolution, creation, preservation and destruction. In Hindu mythology Parvathi represents Shakthi or Energy and Shiva represents Consciousness. The fusion or union results in creation. Bottom Picture: Vishwanath temple, 11th century, Khajuraho This temple of Shiva was built in early 11th century. Opposite to the temple, there is a pavillion housing Nandi, the bull, the vehicle of Shiva. After the 13th century, when the rule of the Chandela kings had come to an end, Khajuraho was abandoned for unknown reasons and slipped into oblivion. Since it was located in the middle of nowhere, it had no strategic importance to the invading muslim rulers. It was accidentally discovered in the 19th century and really came into prominence only in the last fifty years, thanks to the untiring work of Archeological Department of India.

More gorgeous shots. The top has such good detail, and the bottom is almost cinematic! Thanks for the historical data too. :)

The Archaeology Dept. of India, man what fun that'd be! Fer'sur on the bottom, it's so surreal to this pair of eyes as to be like a glass matte painting for some new epic. Great work.

Both are excellent but I really love the bottom shot. That architecture is very unusual.

Suresh my friend, I want to share something with you. The top image.....Shiva and parvathi..... reminds me of a pic I captured at Baijnath Temple in Himachal Pradesh. Even the Temple Architecture is so similar to it. They belong to the same period u think?? I will do some R&D on it and post something tommorow. Since it was situated on a hill top, I couldn't capture the temple like the one you did in the bottom pic. However, I made sure to capture the images from the Temple Walls. This one is brilliant, Keep it up. Interesting series.:O))
