Description

"Come together, right now." "Time you enjoy wasting, was not wasted." "God is a concept by which we measure our pain." "Life is what happens when you are making other plans." "As usual, there is a great woman behind every idiot." "Reality leaves a lot to the imagination." "Love is a promise, love is a souvenir, once given never forgotten, never let it disappear." "Everybody loves you when you're six foot in the ground." --Quotes by John Lennon

Today is the 25th anniversary of the death of John Lennon, arguably one of the most influential singer/songwriters of the 20th century. No matter what your personal feelings, you've gotta give him that. For myself, the music of the Beatles was a great influence on my and my perception of the world, even my art. I was a teenager in a time (the 80's) when the Beatles albums were all being re-released in a wonderful new format known as CD. There was a rekindled surge of interest in their music that music groups still together and releasing albums would have loved to enjoy. I got as many albums as I could afford at the time, made mixed tapes, and listened to them quite a bit -- when not playing the "New Wave" music of the time. Their catchy, energetic tunes, upbeat and surreal lyrics, and vocal harmonizing made me feel good, and still does to this day. For your part in that, I thank you Mr. Lennon. ----- Thanks for stopping by and for your eerie comments on my last photo, Creepy Christmas.

Aw.I'm glad you did this Kort.I always liked John Lennon's wit and ascerbic humor. It provided the perfect counterpoint to Paul's often syrupy sweet lyricism. In the song,'Getting Better',you have Paul's perpetually optimistic,"I have to admit it's getting better...A little better all the time..."To which John adds,"It can't get no worse!" IMHO the Beatles would never have been the icons they are today if it weren't for that wonderful balance of personalities.Thank you for remembering this great and giving artist with your lovely tribute.-M :^)

While I never much cared for Lennon's politics or music (McCartney was the musical talent in the group), and my opinion is that John Lennon was glib, smug and self-satisfied, I must admit I respect his creativity and his courage for self expression which flew in the face of convention. Sadly, he seemed to prophesy his own fate. John Lennon's legacy is a rich one, and it seems to be withstanding the changing times. A fitting tribute, TwoPynts; one of which he would have approved, I'm sure.

I was a teenager when I took my sister to Shay Stadium,NY to see the Beatles. Didn't hear a word they sang..too many girls screaming their lungs out. I loved the early Beatles, wasn't too crazy about their later psychodelic years..Like your pic and tribute to Mr Lennon..

Wow! How timely! i was just listening to the radio, and they announced the anniversary of John Lennon's "Assassination". Suddenly that word, that I had always heard used too describe the planned murder of a political, military or religious leader. But hey it fits! Lennon was very political. I grew up on the Beatles as well, all my 45's and my first double-albums were the Beatles! They are most certainly one the premier influential bands of rock & roll! And they also were quite public with their changes in style and politics. Wonderful memorial!

Knowing John's taste for nonsense and the absurd, I feel sure he would have been amused by your hommage pic here. As a character on the world stage, he was awesome, far greater than most of the music he created, in my opinion! But John won't be forgotton, and rightly so. Thanks TwoPynts for starting this memorial thread!
