Description

Eventually we reach the glacier, although the track heading to the hut is elevated above the glacier. Still no red dots here, only a large boulder on the edge of the glacier. It might fall down any moment so be aware of rocks that can fall down when visiting a glacier, the ice is (usually) constantly melting in summer. Still this fantastic contrast in color betwen the rocks and the ice on one side and the green grass on the other.... Very nice to follow your illustrated reportage, Jan-Carel ! :~)

Looks more like a volcan than a glacier for me... Nice colours.

I realize this is a flawed disnosis but ice can cling to a slope that water would run off. Just in case any ducks manage to fly this high. I waive my usual fee for unskilled surgery for this psychiatic opinion.

This detail shot (yes, probably more than 100 m. from the closest ice) shows the current sediment burden on top of the ice is many times thicker than those of previous summers. Curious. Evidence of recent global warming? May be. Our planet has hundreds of million years history with such swings. -- Dick

A great show of how the glacial ice scrapes away the rock of the mountainside! Impressive, but dangerous as well - be careful :)

Not too fond of heights, makes me dizzy just looking at this fantastic photo. Most people consider me dizzy anyway, so I guess I have nothing to be concerned about. ;o)
