Description

Looking to the other side we see the world of glaciers with the Langgletscher in the valley, fed by connected and disjointed glaciers in a world where temperatures even in summer can be freezing. The little dot on the mountain ridge starting left from the ice-pass (the saddle) is the Hollandiahütte at an elevation of 3235 m (10614 ft). This hut can only be reached by a hike over the glacier. Although I would love to do that once (in a group tied by ropes), it's not done to do that right now, it's entirely unresponsible to cross glaciers without a guide, unless you're an expert (and even then it's dangerous). "Your helpful comments for improving this image:" If Wim had been in this pic 50 or 100 m. upslope, the enormity of the scene would be doubled, or more, IMO. Maybe next summer? Still a fantastic capture of a harsh world -- Dick
