Description
Here's a new Carrara test. I'm still using the demo, so the size is the largest I can make it.
I think I'm coming to terms with it. Still a LOT I don't know. For example, I've worked out how to do texture mapping, but not how to change the reflective setting once I've done that. (Would have been nice to see the watch reflected in the polished wood)
I still like it though. Maybe someone will buy me the full version for my Birthday.
Anyway, here's my (infamous) watch model which I created in Wings. Loaded, textured and rendered in Carrara and post in Photoshop. Maybe when I get to grips with Carrara I won't need to post so much.
Here's the Bryce version for comparison.

Thanks for looking.

Great ambience effects on this. How long was the render.
drawbridgep
Render time was about a minute.

quite nice, have to say. the effect is truly awesome in terms of caustics (if that's what they're called).

I see what you mean about the reflections, the Bryce version is very well done. Still using the demo myself; very new to these other modeling techniques, been scratching my head for a couple days now; Damn that vertex making thing! Good luck;) Do you think you will convert?

So that's where my watch went!? :) Awesome!

I think it looks great. I know you wanted the reflection in the wood but the wood looks fine 'unpolished' to me. Good job!

Looks great to me! I know it maybe considered a cheat and perhaps more work than worth it but you could have added a render of watch from a different perspective into your wood texture map maybe with a 30% transperency setting or what suits you.I'm sure full version has ability to create desired reflection as I do in LightWave. :B eaver !

Looks really good to me - I too like the "raw" wood. You're obviously getting the hang of Carrara (heretic!) ;)

Good work :)

Nice job,to add some reflection make sure you use a multichannel shader and just enter a value for the Reflection channel and have your Wood texture map in the color channel.
