Description

The world up here becomes more and more rocky. The timberline has been passed yet and I have to cross tracks on bare rocks, sometimes with the aid of steel-wire on little inclinations, but incomparably easier than in Fieschertal. The textures of the rock fascinate me. The red colors are probably caused by iron (ore) in the rocks. On the ridge - looking down on me - blooms alpine willowherb (Epilobium fleischeri) which you have seen before. Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 70 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

There is something fascinating about viewing haemotite that will never be mined for it's ore content. It's an intellectual thing not to be a prospector and yet to possess the mineral identification expertise to report discovery of mineral of economic potential far from economic access. It's like viewing a tiger far from hunters.

Beautiful glacially carved rock walls. This image reminds me of sights I've seen in Alaska, California, and Norway. Thanks for the memories Jan, excellent photo and photography!

Gorgious ! As you I've always been fascinated by all the textures of the stone (and the one of the trees)and there is an incredible diversity here, in forms and colors. But this one, with the pink flowers on the top, is so lovely Jan-Carel ! Superb shot again on the land of the Lions ;o)))) Have a wonderful week-end my friend. Hugs V

Agree with tmathise, excellent capture of glacial scour. Bare rocks do make for easier hiking, though.

seeing these plants proves that rocks are far from being dry but do contain water. I love the colors

Nice closeup, Jan-Carel. Seems that weeds ( oops flowers! ) grow everywhere ;0) even on something as barren looking as this. Regards, John.
