Description

Shot Monday, Feb 27, 2006. The goal was to recreate World War 2 era (1940s) pin-ups and Military Aircraft nose-art of the time as best as possible with limited resources. The shoot was sot with a High Key backlight and purposly trying to make the models look more washed out for an artistic painted mimic. Turned out very well! Model is Elizabeth Ashley. Great great model, she's one of the best I've ever worked with. Fantastic ideas and a pleasure to photograph! The machine gun is a replica Browning .50 Caliber MA2 AC gun. The AC means it's an aircraft version, often found in aircraft such as the B-27 Flying Fortress, B-25J Mitchell, P-51D Mustang, and many more. This particular .50 cal, thougha replica, came out of the nose of a B-25J Mitchell at the Planes of Fame Museum (on loan for the shoots). The silver bracket holder on the .50 cal IS real however. The ammunition is WW2 era. The pins in the bottom are still in place, however, when I found them all linked together at an antique store, they were all missing the copper bullet tips. Thankfully a seller on e-bay was selling a box of copper .50 cal bullet tips! The ammo box appears to be WW2 as well from what I can tell. The M1 helmet is also WW2 vintage. The green top Elizabeth is wearing is not vintage, though looks simular to the part. She's standing behind a white table which the .50 cal is resting on (it's about 30 pounds, too heavy for her). In the future I'll post another angle of her in this simular type of shot with her on the table itself over the .50 cal. It's the flower, I think, that makes the photo into a photo I've been calling "The Pin-Up goes to War." Taken with a Canon Rebel EOS 5D (12mp) and Canon 28-105mm USM lens. Shot at a studio where I work in Anaheim, CA.

Stunning work! The meticulous attention to details here is what separates a true professional from the occasional hobbyist. Much respect.

He he, that gun might a bit too heavy indeed! When shooting I am afraid she would tumble immediately! Fantastic work! :)

Fantastic, stylish, masterful. Love the energetic mood with bright light, high contrast and vivid colours that don't decrease the high artistic value of that great work. Congrats on a superb series!
