Description

Sometimes we try to shoot something that's virtually impossible. But it wouldn't be me to give up that soon. So I tried to shoot the frozen part of the lake from this side. It's great to discover the world under this ice where the water of the lake has retreated, since it has some quite unexpected structures I hope to show you tomorrow. You can see here the bottom side of the ice sheet that grows down closer to the border of the lake. I'm standing here on the pebbles (no wet feet) and I cannot take more distance of this, hence the unusual perspective. Perhaps not that spectacular but please wait for tomorrow to finish your judgement! :) Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 50 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

Excellent unique view, adding an interesting coarse structure to the foreground - but somewhat risky shot? (for the photographer that is!)

I was starting to wonder if you had actually waded into the freezing water to make this image... Great image from a highly unusual pov.

Really impressive and an excellent idea Jan-Carel to show us this one. Very original to see the iced part of the lake in this way, as if you where under water and caming out. Love the details of the ice, and this blue color. It's an unusual POV but so great ! Love it too ! have a nice day. Hugs. V

Some of the ice structures in Antartica have this blue transparency that transcends knowledge of the sun from under water and the sky in the North. We need to observe more and show less.

It looked, Jan-Carel, almost as if you had taken this shot through the car windscreen, of a buried vehicle. Keep those feet dry and warm, my friend, Regards, John.

There's still snow and ice in the highlands, but Spring approaches. Wonderful capture of a very different POV, Jan-Carel. I also agree with jgkane. I thought you took this from a snow and ice covered window!

Very innovative shot. I have always had nightmares of being caught under a frozen lake. It comes from an experience of walking on a frozen lake and suddenly the ice starting to crack under me. It was a scare of a life time!
