Description

My photos can't do justice to the amazing architecture of this building, but hopefully will give you an inkling of how impressive it is to experience firsthand. ----- Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel by John Portman and Associates - 1985 This hotel is billed as the largest convention hotel in the southeast. Marquis One and Marquis Two Towers are positioned on the north and south of the entrance. This hotel's lobby is even more spectacular than Portman's Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, designed almost 20 year earlier. The central atrium is 50 stories high. Metal balcony railings add a decorative quality. Portman's signature glass-walled "bubble" elevators are a joy to view and ride in. The entire edifice of the downtown Marriott Marquis curves disconcertingly. Slim on top, the building billows outward as it reaches ground level, giving the impression that it might be pregnant with a little Marriott. The 50 story high atrium, ringed with intricately shaped balconies, rises in concentric circles leaving visitors gasping. The shock rests in the size and surreal beauty of this internal architecture, which looks like the giant ribs of a massive creature. A prominent tower carries elegant glass-cage elevators silently into the 515-foot chasm. ----- Thanks for stopping by and for your stern looking comments on my last photo, The Glare.

Spectacular montage, Kort! It is difficult to get a true sense of scale here, but this structure must be immense. Kudos!

Superb presentation, with subtle depth in the each of the "panels", the whole HALF-suggesting a strip of "film", which organizing image is right on. Try bordering panels on both sides, I suppose, and you got a triptych--or is it too busy? CALLING CYNLEE, CALLING CYNLEE....Let me see, The MAQUIS DE FRENCH UNDERGROUNDwrote the rules for prize-fighting, no?

I can imagine, yes... You're the world champion for that kind of stuff, in USA.. I've never been more impressed than when I saw the interior of the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas... It reminded me the senate building in Star Wars... Your shots here are really incredible...
