Description

...an impression of a beech forest in May in my country, where the "wild garlic" may be locally abundant. When blooming they are an impressive sight, uniform in apperance and in large numbers. (As a herb, in the kitchen, the plant is delicius, if you like a mild garlic taste). Vue5I, Onyxtree, Bantam3D "Grass", XFrog, and Photoshop (mainly for colour/levels correction). Except for the blue "Forget-Me-Nots" from Toucan, all the objects and texures are my work, the "Wild Garlic" flowers are modelled from scratch in XFrog. 1.600 mio polys, rendered in a little more than 7 hrs. in "Broadcast" mode with Global Illumination. Thanks for viewing, hope you like this. Comments etc. more than welcome and very much appreciated. Have a nice weekend - Lars

These trees are made with Vue? Did I miss something? Or did you use a photographic background? Anyway - excellent!

A great thank you for all your kind comments so far. For "Othosmops" (and every one else): The trees are made with Onyxtree, textured in Vue. The background is a terrain with an ecosystem containing the same objects as in the foreground terrain(s). Now, about the trees: They are very hi-rez objects, the large "beech" is more than 80 mb file size, Vue handled them without "warnings" etc. - but had to be re-loaded after saving the finished scene. It is possible to greatly reduce the file size of such trees by using "plates" with bitmapped "Vue-style" foliage textures. But issues about making them "onesided" for backlight effect - which is crucial in a scene like this - produces undesired reduction in complexity (the same happens with XFrog trees), so I use procedural textures instead.

That is beautiful - how wonderful that we have the detail of the steep hill in the foreground... and what a natural looking landscape. EXCELLENT!

That's what I call a "jawdropper" - I'm sitting here since a few minutes looking at this amazingly realistic image. A topnotch image by all means. Kudos! =8-O
