Been so far behind in commenting, but have caught up finally, Whew, so many talented offerings this past week.
Here is a another shot from our Hula Festival in Hilo. During the hula the story is told by the movements of the hands, hips, and body movements. Each hand gesture has a different meaning and is conveyed by the dancer to the audience. When it's done correctly it is art in motion. It takes many years to become an accomplished dancer, and usually the older ladies have got it down to a science...when done right it is mesmerizing. A feather head lei adorns this dancer and sea shell lei completes her ensemble.
