Description

"Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." -Terry Pratchett

I took a little vacation and today is my first day back. Florida has had a pretty dry past couple of months, and some of you may have heard that we've had some problems with wildfires. I captured this image Sunday while driving north through Florida on I95, just past Titusville. It was a little eerie to drive into this wall of smoke, but we made it through okay. The sun was a bloody red ball, but unfortunately I didn't get a shot of that. The southbound lanes were closed, but those heading north were still open, but under the watchful eye of the Florida Highway Patrol. We heard afterward that the entire section of interstate was closed shortly after we drove through that area. I'm playing catch-up right now, but will get back in the swing of things soon. I had a great vacation, and took lots of photos, but it was all too short. You can read more about the recent fires here: Florida Wildfires ----- Thank you for your weathered comments on my last upload, Vintage Wagon.

Wow!What an ominous looking sky!I'd be scared to drive through it!Very cool-looking capture,Kortalouche.Did it smell like mesquite? The last time I was in Florida, and we drove to Orlando,I kept smelling something like mesquite. Then I realised it must have been wildfire.Or one enormous barbeque, lol.Anyway, welcome back.I look forward to seeing your pics.LOL at your quote...I have that one saved.Too funny.Have a wonderful evening!-M :^)

Once was in the backcountry, having come down from some climbing, and walked through a narrow valley with wild fires burning heavily on both sides....interesting.

We're off to Florida five weeks today (and counting) Do I need my extinguisher? It looks scarier than all those rides put together!

I remember back in the 70's it was dry like that and there were big fires in Jonathan Dickenson State park and in the Corbett wildlife area...We're having the same problem here in New Mexico...It's supposedly the driest winter in 60 years..lots of fires along the eastern border with Texas... BTW..great shot ..
