Description

"Build a man a fire, and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire, and he'll be warm for the rest of his life." -Terry Pratchett

I took a little vacation and today is my first day back. Florida has had a pretty dry past couple of months, and some of you may have heard that we've had some problems with wildfires. I captured this image Sunday while driving north through Florida on I95, just past Titusville. It was a little eerie to drive into this wall of smoke, but we made it through okay. The sun was a bloody red ball, but unfortunately I didn't get a shot of that. The southbound lanes were closed, but those heading north were still open, but under the watchful eye of the Florida Highway Patrol. We heard afterward that the entire section of interstate was closed shortly after we drove through that area. I'm playing catch-up right now, but will get back in the swing of things soon. I had a great vacation, and took lots of photos, but it was all too short. You can read more about the recent fires here: Florida Wildfires ----- Thank you for your weathered comments on my last upload, Vintage Wagon.

For one this is an excellent in car shot, but is that the place you want to be driving? This is actually good jounalistic photgraphy.

I know this scene very well.. as an ex-floridian but mostly for the great fires we suffer from here in Oregon.. I was once officially evacuated by the State Forestry Dept. when it came within a mile of my home.. But I refused to leave since I had a horse and could not move her out. All turned out well. This is an awesome shot and as Doug aka dBgrafix says, "good journalistic photography."

Great shot, vertical composition really shows off the height of this thing.
