Description

This, believe it or not folks, was once the world's fastest fighter. Pilots loved it, as it was almost viceless and easy to fly. No wonder it soon became extinct! Vue Inf. using an old Raydream model I picked up somewhere. (Where have the Stukas gone? Dumped, because one of you was right, as usual. The should have dived to starboard and not how I showed 'em). Always willing to listen and learn - nobody knows it all!

These are really cool jets. It looks liek it would be a nightmare to change the top engine. There was one of these on display at Riyadh air base. I was thinking of making one sometime myself.

Superb image of a Classic fighter! Not only the first fighter to feature HOTAS, it also won fame for once sucessfully intercepting the American "un-interceptable" U2 spyplane.

A great composition, as usual; although something about the exhaust bothers me. Don't know why or what. Doesn't seem as realistic as the rest of the picture. Suffers by comparison. Still, better than anything I could do. As for the Stukkas, don't just dump 'em, re-do 'em.

Re the tailpipe diamonds. The reason they are there is that I wanted to see if I could actually produce them!!! I'd seen something similar on TV and knew that they existed. I also know that if I had just shown a simple jet efflux, someone would want diamonds. Catch 22?

feel bad I don't recognize this..looks a little like a Mig, a little like other stuff..what is it? From the front, I almost thought it was Brazilian, but what do I know?..;) great work, no matter who's flying..;)

Those are what are refered to as Mach Diamonds, produced when the engine is putting out enough thrust to push the aircraft faster than sound. This is a great picture of the Lightning, one of the coolest fighters ever. Oh, and Dann-O, what they did was slide the engine out onto a trolly. Pretty simple really.

Sorry to hear about the Stukas. I was the one suggesting it, and it was an excellent render minus that detail. I would have done the same too, mind you... On the present subject though, excellent work as usual. And as usual, I like the ominous atmosphere...

Stunning plane, has a very real/painted kinda feel to this render helped by a superb atmo set-up.

Beautiful aircraft. Graceful flyer. 1st tme I saw them I thought MIG, but landing at Upper heyford made it obvious they was on our side. LOL. Too bad they had a short service life. Agree with Jeremy - please dont dump the Stukas. Thanks for sharing. Dwayne

Great image! Pakled - that's an English Electric (probably now BAE) Lightning. Truly a unique design. It also had a stores station on the top of each wing, much like the current Jaguar.

Those "diamonds" in the exhaust are an example of Fanno Flow, a principle of supersonic fluid dynamics.
