Description

My chess set again. This time I've played with the DOF settings. DOF in carrara DOES kinda make sense to me, but the preview is kinda small, so I wasn't sure what I'd get until I rendered. I also turned on quite a few of the settings. SO this took 1 1/2 hours to render. The DOF is worked out afterwards, which is kinda weird, but I guess it knows what it's doing. No lights in this. Just the HDRI which is also the backdrop. Chess set made in Wings. Render in Carrara using default textures and a tiny bit of post in Photoshop (sharpen and resize). One of the English computer art mags has a picture of a chess set by a guy at a similar angle and POV, so I nod to him (sorry, not sure who it was)for the inspiration. Thanks for looking.

Wow, that turned out really good. How long was the setup? (C5 becoming more interesting with every render...)

Love the glassy reflective surface and they way the colors wrap around the thru the cubes. Very cool (as always!)

Setup wasn't too long. Just needed to set the textures for my existing chess set. Move a few pieces, play with HDRi, FOV, POV and DOF and a few other three letter abbreviations that I don't understand and then rendered.

great work, only crit is the bottom right king piece, because of its angle the distortion looks like electricity inside it making it look a lil outta place? other than fantastic work

Impressive! A little caustic plugin and the guy with the camera (who took the pic? ;) ) and you'll be in photorealism. This scene would take me upwards of 12 hours to render. Your settings seem to have landed just right.

Stunning render here! I don't know much about Carrara cause I use Cinema4D but it looks like a very impressive program. The glass textures in my mind are perfectly done. Thanks for inspiring me to go back to try realism and chess peices again!! I wanna see more from you with chess sets! EXCELLENT JOB MY FRIEND!!! :D

Very cool! I have no idea how DOF work in any of the programs I have. :) One day, I'll have enough time to figure it all out! This came out fantastic!
