Description

Independence Day (4th July 1776) is commonly associated with barbecues, parades, picnics, games, and other public and private events including fireworks celebrating the history and traditions of the U.S. For those of you who still celebrate the day for its true significance, we share this day in the never dieing spirit of freedom - like these lions. This is my humble tribute from Africa.

And for those of you having bought (illegal) fireworks, be careful, LOL!

Lovely capture there. I particulary like the curious expression on the lioness, the fact that you have just posted this I hope means that she was not interested in you for culinary reasons:-} Where did you take this shot if you don't mind me asking? (sorry for deletion but PC is wobbling LOL!!)

@ Boofy: This shot and the previous three had been taken at Buisfontein Safari farm, Leeudoringstad, South Africa. Sorry if these Dutch names are a bit hard on you, but there you have it. Thanks for your concern, I am intact, just, LOL!

This is a super capture Sir Piet. Methinks this is a late afternoon pic as the shadows are long and the lions are awake and waiting for night to fall so they can hunt...

What an excellent comparison! Freedom is especially important in the animal kingdom and human kind! Thank you for the tribute and the explosive warnings. I, for one, will count my fingers when the festivities have subsided. lol :0)

@ Geert: Thanks, maybe I should explain that "Leeudoringstad" where the photo was captured, also means "city of the lion's thorn", if translated.

Another great lion photo - it looks like she's sizing you up again, lionesses must like the look/smell of you (or is she the same one as before?).

Again, a magnificent photography. I like the indifference of her. She is the authentic queen of the forest. But I believe that, your better work, is that glance of adoration and love, that your dog in avatar has :). Hugsss

Fabulous shot, Piet! Even here it's easy to tell that lioness was keeping a pretty close eye on you. It must take a special sense to get so close to these animals and live to tell about it!
