Kimarie Chartier here- 43. I live in Canyon Country /Newhall area , Southern California. I have always been an artist . I started drawing at age two. My Mother said when I was a child I always had something to draw with in hand and I would cry when the paper ran out (LOL) ..I went to art school for a short while and have taught art to elementry school kids. I have done many oil paintings , pastels and watercolors , but recently , have been intrigued with digital photography and computer photo art in paint shop pro. now, I mainly work in Paint shop pro 7 and 11. I now also just beginning to work in ADobe photoshop cs2 ! I also am a full time Mom with three girls ( who are all over my gallery) Annie 16, Janel 13, and Christina 10. Between my parenting, photoshoots, Renderosity and playing in paint shop/ photoshop I keep very busy ! I also have a sweet, loving cocker spaniel named Candi who is very needy of much love and attention lol She goes with me on photoshoots-oh- 'cept when I am shooting birds haha cause she is a bird hunter by nature!!
I LOVE any kind of art .like to draw and paint with basically anything I can get my hands on (LOL)!
I have fallen in love with photography
opening up light and dark and seeing the limitless possiblities! But I do still love to paint too!!  Works like Nightfears , came from nothing but my immagination -drawing/ painting with only a mouse paint and smudge tools from a blank page in paintshop 7. I started out with a Nikon 7900 pocket cam and am at the moment working in photography..now also have two other canon pocket cams a sl900
and sx 100is - mainly all my work in my gallery is done with my little pocket cams - they go with me everywhere and is an an extention of my right hand!! I have a canon rebel as well but it isnt working all that great so manly using the pocket cams for now . Learning..growing and sharing on here is the best!! I don't know what I would do without this site it has helped me learn so much..( this site motivates me so much ) I love it here ! yeah so I got the photography bug ..and I also love to do photo art...!! I, every now and then I will do a painting or a smudging as I call it.( you can see most of my smudge painting works hand done with a mouse on the first two pages of my gallery!!)

Description 2-2 1/2" (51-64 mm). Wings scalloped and rounded except at drawn-out FW tip. Very variable. Usually warm brown above with light orange FW band and submarginal HW band, 2 red-orange bars in FW cell, and 4 eyespots (1 small and 1 large on FW, 2 nearly equal in size on HW), containing little if any reddish-purple in blue iris. Below, similar but lighter on FW, HW brownish to reddish with vague lines and minute eyespots. Similar Species Buckeye has white FW band, upper eyespot on HW larger than lower one, usually darker brown with some purplish in eyespots. Life Cycle Soft black caterpillar has small yellow and blue dots and 6 rows of branching bristles; light rings on body. Host plant in Florida and Antilles is black mangrove (Lippia). Flight Successive broods; year-round. Habitat Subtropical shorelines and open scrub. Range S. Texas, S. Florida, south through Mexico and West Indies to South America. Discussion For a long time the Mangrove Buckeye was confused with the Buckeye, and some still consider them the same species. But the 2 butterflies mingle in southern Florida and the West Indian species seems largely to replace the Buckeye in the Florida Keys, at least during the summer. I think this is correct. any rate a fabulous find and capture http://www.enature.com/home/

Oh, gorgeous! I've never seen a red passion flower either. We just have the purplish ones here. Excellent capture of the moth as well!
danob
I would agree with yesitis3 and say it was indeed a mangrove Buckeye the spots are less distinct but the flower just gets in the way for 100% ID but the two markings on each side at the top of the wings are the real sign this is the species.. Great you got so close, is the new Camera on yet!! ??

Stunning photo of an incredibly beautiful flower...I too have only seen purple ones, so nice to know there are others. The full view seems to show your beautifully detailed butterfly is actually a moth. Doesn't matter, it's an outstanding photo!

Wow! Great point of view! It looks like you shrunk to six inches to take that picture! I'm also going to disagree with Cullen...It's not a buterfly it's a humming bird! LOL...Just kidding it's a moth.
