Description
I was going to give the butterfly shots a rest for a while but seeing as it is their week I'll upload some more.
This one is a White Letter Hairstreak, named because of the wing markings. They are moderately endangered, but recently their range has been getting bigger, indications are that they are adapting their life style. They were once only found on mature elm trees which have all but disappeared from our countryside, killed by decease, yet recently these butterflies have adapted to living on wych elm and an introduced species of Japanese elm. They are not often seen as they spend much of their time in the treetops, but like here they do come down to feed on flowers in the early morning. They are quite a small species about the size of a thumbnail.
Many thanks for viewing and any comments.
