Description

This is straight out of carrara (apart from border etc). The floor texture is from a photo I took when I was in a guesthouse a few years ago in southern Indiana. People must think I'm crazy if they see me taking pictures of floors and walls. The book model is by Alfons Blom I just tweaked it a little. The top three books are textures taken from scans of books my wife has laying around. The bottom book is the texture Alfons supplied with the model. I wasn't going to include it, but it's sucha nice little model, that I felt it only fair. No lights in this scene. It's lit with an HDRI and GI Sky light and indirect lighting. Took about 3 minutes to render. I LOVE carrara. Thanks for looking and please look at the full sized version to avoid distortions.

I know what you mean about taking floor and wall photos...had all sorts of people look at me strange when pointing my camera at a seemingly blank wall. Very cool on the realism here and at only 3 minutes render time to boot!! Excellent job on the textures too.

At first I wondered why you were showing a photo of a pile of books, until I read on and realised that you had created some fantastic realism. fantastic work.

WOW!...how do you do that with the book covers??? HINT! BEGGING YA! I agree with you about the render times in cararra..its an awesome machine! Had to chuckle about the strange looks...my and friends are always asking the same thing..."What are you doing?"..."Textures???? what are those???"

OK. Alfons' model is supplied with two jpeg images. One is the front and back cover and the spine and the other are the pages. I scanned the front cover, and spine of a few old books and then used photoshop to more or less paste the images over Alfons' original. A little bit of trial and error to get them lined up and there you go. Flat mapped in Carrara, as is teh floor, add an HDRI and crank up the render settings and hit the make art button and then Robert is your mothers brother.

Never confuse simplicity with unsophistication... This is very sophisticated and maintains an aire of simplicity. Superb.
